Be Careful not to insult them

Postby jedwards-locked-out » Mon Mar 26, 2007 9:48 pm

Hello,

It seems that because I ask the tough questions, they decided to get rid of me.

However, since I have so many domains, and so many Scalix servers out there, I'll just keep coming back.

If you don't have the resources, better watch what you say. You could be locked out also.

I'm showing my customers just how the Scalix team reacts to tough questions. You get many useless answers from those folks with the Scalix logo next to their name. Many times they won't answer at all.

Watch for the claim that "It must be something you did to your own account".

I disagree with what you are saying, but even if you are correct, what help is it to you to post what you just did? Now they will be even less helpful for you.

I find that when people make comments like you have just done, usually they are the fools... often called arrogance

Also, you know.... just reading this particular message and another one to which I have just responded.... I tend to discuss things quite a bit, I have strong opinions on some things, there are lots of things everywhere that I'd like to see improved - many fellows here at Scalix can certainly testify to that - but then...

I fundamentally like people, unless they give me a good reason not to do so. That's true even for the folks working for our competitors, some of whom I always violently disagree with about each system's capabilities or certain archtectural or functional approaches, and I'll fight hard not to lose a single customer to them. Still, I do respect them, and more so the better and more competent they are [won't give you my top-10 on this one, hope you understand....]. After all, it's a lot more fun and learning to compete and argue with someone that you feel is on-par with you. Now, for the respect part, a lot of that has to do with language and how you communicate, especially in writing, where some visual clues as to the persons thought are missing.

Looking at your current posts, I don't see that kind of respect towards anybody here.

With all your complaints, you should also understand that you're getting a free service when you receive support through here, because we fundamentally believe that the community is a vital part of our business strategy. Obviously, sometimes our folks are caught in developing software or talking to commercial customers who pay for support and services and - needless to say - are given priority over forum responses. So I'm very close to just deleting this thread because it doesn't seem to be providing any value to anybody here, and it seems that even some people without the Scalix Logo next to their name would agree.

If you have any more meaningful questions, please go ahead and put them in the appropriate place using appropriate language, and I'm sure you'll receive meaningful responses as well by anyone of our staff looking into this or some other community members who spend lots of spare time here in making this a better product for all our benefit.

Cheers,
Florian.

Just want to agree with the sentiments expressed by Florian - I remember very clearly the first post I saw from the person in question (tinyurl.com/2cz7wt) & being struck the rudeness of its tone, a tone which is totally uncharacteristic of this place.

My experience of community-type help has always been that there's a strong correlation between the help received & the humility shown to your would-be helpers - it's just good manners. That said, I find this forum pretty forgiving - try posting in a similar vein on comp.lang.perl.misc & see what happens...

Perhaps, as Florian suggests, the OP didn't intend to be offensive, but I would recommend he thoroughly reads the following page before making further 'contributions':

I would like to take a moment and give a standing ovation to Florian, Kevin, Subir the Scalix Team and the users whom make up this forum.

I rolled out my first Scalix server March 6th 2007 into a 250 plus user environment with only a week to have the solution built and live. This forum simply made this possible.

I thank Scalix for empowering its employees to have a voice to speak the good and the bad. I keep coming back because Scalix does have answers. Is it always what I want to hear? No…. but we get suggestions, workarounds and so fourth. Every solution I have taken on in my 14 years of IT has had its challenges. This forum reduces troubleshooting time and saves me a great deal of $$ time to my clients.

Thank you Scalix!

I as well would like to cheer on the Scalix people. When I logged into sac on one Scalix server I setup, I see we've surpassed 10K messages delivered. All without too many issues (and sadly, most of them created by an overzealous tech freak, namely me.)

I posted one little grouse about Scalix tech support in another forum, but by and large, these guys do some pretty awesome work.

To the original poster, if it's that bad, lay out some LARGE cash, and go with Exchange. Anyone wanna share horror stories about dealing with MS tech support???

Hi dougp23,

Sorry, this is way off topic here but do you mind telling me where did you see the total messages delivered under SAC. I couldn't find that info under mine 11.0.1 server.

And as for jedwards-locked-out, I just wonder why doesn't he purchase commercial support for his "many" Scalix servers instead of complaining about this or that here. Pay and get what you want. I also have to deal with rude clients every day but as long as they pay the bill, I just don't take it personally. At the end of the day every business is about making money and within this forum you can only expect to get the level of support from Scalix as it's fit with their bussiness policy and plans. But at least it's a place where users can help each other for free.

Login to SAC. Click Server Info at the top.
On the left, you will see Queues. Generally, I look to the Service Router or Local Delivery. You can simply hold your mouse over one of these and a little box will pop up telling you the number or messages processed. You can also click one of them and the right portion of the window will show you roughly the same info.
