Python 2.2 exception during installation

Postby cbrierley » Tue Apr 12, 2005 2:52 pm

I've reached the end of the install wizard for the evaluation version of the Scalix server on RHEL 3 update 3. I'm at the "Congratulations!" screen and when I click the forward button my console displays the following python exception:

Code: Select all

Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "build/py22/sxmerlin.py", line 320, in forward_event
  File "build/py22/sxmerlin.py", line 280, in do_transition
  File "build/py22/sxmerlin.py", line 537, in build_work_area
  File "build/py22/sxscreens.py", line 4064, in build_work_area
  File "build/py22/sxsystem.py", line 2907, in get_browser
  File "build/py22/sxsystem.py", line 2864, in get_browsers
File "build/py22/sxsystem.py", line 83, in which
File "build/py22/sxplatform.py", line 53, in which
TypeError: cannot concatenate 'str' and 'NoneType' objects

...and I am returned to the same screen with still a "Forward" button rather than an "OK" button to complete the install.

Is this a serious problem or just an installer bug? Can I "Cancel" the installation without ill effects in using the server?

At this point in the process all of the install/config work is completed. The Scalix server and web clients are installed and configured. The Scalix Installer is checking for a web browser and cleaning up files in the /tmp directory. Yes you can cancel the installer.

Just a couple quick requests:

1) What version of Python
run the command:
python -V

2) Which web browser and version is installed?

Thanks for the information, Art. I'm using Python 2.2.3 and the only browser installed on the server is elinks version 0.4.2, per the requirements section of the installation guide.

Thanks again.

Python 2.2.3 is fully supported. It is the lack of a gui browser.

As previously stated you're good to go. Let us know if you've got anymore questions.

Regards - Art
