Gil,

Scalix officially supports only western european character sets (i.e. iso-8859-1 and related such as -15) for the time being. Hebrew is not one of our tested character sets.

A future release of Scalix will provide broader character set support.

However, depending on your version of Outlook, you may be successful displaying your hebrew email by setting the "Non-unicode default character set" of your Windows installation to an appropriate Hebrew character set.

Non-western character sets will work much better when using IMAP-based clients such as Mozilla thunderbird or Scalix Web Access.

Cheers,
Florian.

Hi Florian :-)

I'm also from Israel and I'm experiencing the same problems - receiving unreadable chars in the subject of the emails.

any solutions, since your last reply to this issue ?

(something we can do here do make it work)
btw. i was thinking of converting the email's subject encoding to utf8 at the server for incoming emails.

kindly,
nadav :-)

Hi Nadav,

playing around with UTF might help, however, at Scalix 10 the situation is still the same in that we've only tested and support Western European character sets.

The next major release of Scalix, however, will provide for much broader character set support based on the usage of Unicode and UTF-8 throughout the system.

Hope this helps,
Florian.

Nadav,

maybe also to add that initially we'll only test the apps with left-to-right scripts as anything else will probably include other UI issues as well, such as misplaced labels, etc. Don't know what your situation with other web-based applications is like today.

Having said that, we'll certainly see someone try out Hebrew stuff at some point as we think there is a serious market opportunity. You might want to get in touch with EMEA Sales (and end up on my desk again for technical stuff) to discuss this is context...

Cheers,
Florian.
