can not send email

Postby rfulgado » Wed Mar 15, 2006 1:22 pm

Hi there,

I have a CentOS -4 with sendmail and Scalix 10 community edition. I can't seem
to be able to send email outside of the server using the browser based email.
I get this popup error box saying "Unable to send mail to: user@gmail.com"

netstat show 192.168.2.65 (eth0) is listening on port 25 but not
localhost/127.0.0.1. I did not see any message in /var/log/maillog, unless scalix
logs it somewhere else.

I did try to send email from command line, which failed, but at least I got something
on /var/log/maillog. snippet below:
Mar 14 12:19:30 newdmt sendmail[3384]: k2EHJUcu003384: from=robertof, size=52, class=0, nrcpts=1, msgid=<200603141719.k2EHJUcu003384@newdmt.dmtserv.com>, relay=robertof@localhost
Mar 14 12:19:30 newdmt sendmail[3384]: k2EHJUcu003384: to=joe_schmoe@gmail.com, ctladdr=robertof (500/500), delay=00:00:00, xdelay=00:00:00, mailer=relay, pri=30052, relay=[127.0.0.1] [127.0.0.1], dsn=4.0.0, stat=Deferred: Connection refused by [127.0.0.1]

sendmail/scalix seems to be listening only on 192.168.2.65(eth0) and not on
127.0.0.1(localhost). I don't know if this is normal for system running Scalix.

I made sure localhost/127.0.0.1 can RELAY in smtpd.cfg.

thanks,
roberto

That indicates that sendmail is not configured to run.

In /etc/sysconfig/sendmail, the line should read DAEMON=yes. Is this the case ?

If not, make the change and restart Scalix.

I was under the impression that I have to change daemon to no after reading Scalix Administration Guide, Chapter 4 SMTP Relay section.

I will enable the daemon and try it again.

thanks a bunch,
roberto

P.S.

On Ch. 2 of Scalix Admin guide, pg. 12 - Creating Local Mailnode
The line:
Use the -d option to specify the Internet Domain for mailmode.

should say
Use the -D option to specify the Internet Domain for mailmode.

What page did you see this ? I ask because I raised a bug report prior to release to have that point removed and I don't see reference to it in my copy of the guide.

Page 38 of Scalix Administration Guide. Under "SMTP Relay".

FYI...Document was downloaded from Scalix's Knowledge-Base -> Guide.

The knowledgebase copy is still the 9.4 version and we're working hard to get that updated.

The documentation/ directory of your installation media has the version of the Admin Guide that you need.

Typo on Scalix ver 10 documentation

Postby rfulgado » Mon Mar 20, 2006 3:00 pm

Page of Scalix Administration under "Creating a Local Mailnode".
The line that says:
Use the -d option to specify the internet Domain for mailnode.

Should say:
Use the -D option to specify the internet Domain for mailnode.

As per the man pages:
OMADDMN(8)

NAME
omaddmn - add a mailnode

SYNOPSIS
omaddmn -m mailnode [-R filename] [-D domain] [-N name_or_ia_map] [-Q]
