Activesync: Nokia e71 problem / HTC touch problem

Postby scienide » Mon Aug 03, 2009 9:28 am

Hello,

I got a few problems with activesync. I cant really debug where things are going wrong here.

We got a wildcard domain certificate which we bought at network solutions.
If we use the webmail on a clean windows system it will show the certicates as valid.

If we use outlook it doesnt give a certicate error. It works.

If we use Activesync on Apple Iphone gs it works.

When using a HTC touch i keep getting certificate errors.
I tried to export the UTN Addtrust and the network solutions certificate to the phone which seemed to work, but i still get errors on the certicate.

I am a little baffled that it works on webmail / outlook / iphone, but not on the HTC touch.
What am i doing wrong here..., is this something to do with the mobile device or the server?

We got another problem with a Nokia E71. This phone will download the subject of the e-mail, but it won't show the rest of the body of the message.

With other mail accounts he clicks on the e-mail which contacts the mailserver and shows the rest of the e-mail. When clicking the mail in scalix nothing happens.
What could be wrong here?

P.S.:
We have gotten the SBE and activesync license today. There was a problem with one of the domain names (not the same as we entered) and therefore i dont want to install this just yet. So when everything is correctly activated we can use official support for this.

I hope someone would be able to give me some pointers what could be wrong... ?

With kind regards
Marco Sevriens

Check that the hostname/vhost Apache is served out is listed in the certificate. It may also be that it is a chained certificate, and I am not too sure if WM can handle those. To solve certificate issues, I imported the signing certificate on my phone (Touch Pro) and all the warnings went away. In my case it was due to the root certificate not being present on the phone. You can try that as well, and if it works then try to get HTC to add it to the phone's CA Authorities list.

Get the root certificate's public key in DER format, rename it to <filename>.cer and click on it from File Explorer in the phone.

I managed to get it working using a self signed certificate.

Is it possible that a certain SSL certificate (we use a wildcard) is not valid for usage from the mobile phone? I can log into webmail from several browsers and from outlook without getting a certificate error. As soon as i tried the mobile phone i got error after error.

Thanks for the help, i think i can debug it now since i got it working with a self signed certificate
