Installation on CentOS 3.

Postby dmac » Wed Feb 23, 2005 1:39 pm

Download the latest (9.2.0) evaluation version. Tried running the installation with the --warnonly flag. This allows the installation to start, but it will not install the Scalix rpm. Is there a way to turn off the check for the OS type, or can you add the CentOS as an alternate to the RHEL3. CentOS is built from the RHEL3 and should be equivalent.

Thanks in advance.

The offical Scalix response is that CentOS is not supported. We've done no specific testing on that platform and, as such, we can't guarantee that you won't run into issues further down the line.

However, we have provided instructions in admin_resource_kit/manual_installation.html which details the steps that the scalix-installer takes to create the message store.

This allows you to install the RPMs manually and create a message store without being restricted by the scalix-installer.

Here is another workaround.

make a backup copy of /etc/redhat-release on your CentOS 3.x server,

replace the contents of that file with this (minus the quotes)

"Red Hat Enterprise Linux ES release 3 (Taroon Update 6)"

now the installer will allow you to install because it thinks it is redhat now.

after you install it, make sure to restore /etc/redhat-release from your backup, otherwise yum will probably fail.
