Send as another user

Postby markusbusta » Fri May 13, 2005 2:24 am

We have many users with many alias adresses. They get there messages from another server with the use of fetchmail.

Now they want to send messages in outlook as an alias user.
But when they put the email address in the FROM field in Outlook the only get the message that they have no rights.

Hi. The problem with allowing users to put anything in the From: field is that they can then masquerade as their boss or anyone else they wish to send as. We only allow people to send as themselves or as a user who has delegated permissions to them.

Thanks,
Rachel

But what should we do when a user has 2 email-addresses like edv@domain.com and shop@domain.com. (shop@domain.com as an alias address). He can't answer a email which is send to shop@domain.com with edv@domain.com.

Currently, the only way to archieve this is to have two separate mailboxes and then use delegation to send "on behalf".

When we have 1000 users and 3 domains and each user has 1 email address in each domain do we have to by 3000 Clients?

True and this is understood. Still, our system currently has no functionality to do this at this point. We have logged it as an enhancement request for another client.

Please send me a personal message with your email address. I'd like to discuss this directly with you, as we might raise priority on the request if it becomes a full blocker for deploying Scalix at your organisation.

Thanks,
Florian.

Markus, thanks for the time and our chat yesterday; as discussed, we will be working with you to come up with an appropriate solution for your client. Also, be confirmed that you would certainly NOT need any additional licenses to accomodate for working with your extra alias addresses, so independent of the setup, you'll only need 1000 licenses.

Cheers,
Florian.

Using Outlook, select Tools->Options and then the Delegates Tab.

But as per the post in the other topic in this forum, this will enable Outlook Send-on-behalf of permission not "send-as".

Currently messages going to the outside world that are "sent-on-behalf of" will still appear as from the delegate and not the prinicipal.

JG

Another Solution

Postby ramirez » Thu Feb 02, 2006 5:28 am

Hi,

I don´t know if this is an solution:

When You create a new profile with MAPI (and not Scalix-Server) it should work.

The only bad thing is that you have to work with 2 Profiles (1 with Scalix Connect, and 1 with MAPI and still the same Scalix-Server)

Hope this helps.

Unfortunately, it isn't.

MAPI is an API between Outlook and a Server Connector; the Server Connector can be an MS Exchange Connector (which is built into Outlook) or an external Connector such as Scalix Connect.

So there is no "MAPI communication" between Outlook and Scalix without Scalix connect.

However, the problem described in the original posts is solved already. The upcoming Scalix 10 release, available latr this month, has changed the behaviour of sending "on behalf" to the Outside world.

With Scalix 10, if you send on behalf, it will correctly appear as "sent on behalf" in the Outside world, i.e. Sender and From headers will be different. This behaviour is useful in the case of a assistant/manager relationship.

You can also set a per-user flag that specifies that the actual sender is to be hidden behind the "on behalf" entitiy. This behaviour is useful in the case of a group of people working on behalf of a group entity (such as our Support mailbox) where the individuals should not really reveal their identity.

This and more great things coming up soon, stay tuned.

As mentioned in various other posts, Scalix 10 will be released this week, on 02/14 (US PST timezone).

Ok, you've got me stumped. I simply can't find this flag anywhere. It's mentioned in the release notes, but I can't find it.
Any pointers? Clues?

Assume you're on Scalix 10 already? The flag is to be found as the "sender" flag in the ommodu or omaddu man pages.
