Installing Scalix [Help needed]

Postby shrry8 » Tue Sep 23, 2008 5:38 am

Hey,

I am new to Scalix Community forums. I am currently using Ms-Exchange 2003 and now wants to switch towards open source. Firstly, i want to implement Scalix Community Edition on RHEL 5.1 . So i need your help in installing and configuring Scalix.

1. Can we implement Qouta system on users mailbox through Scalix

2. My this server will not be directly connected to the internet. So is there any solution in scalix by which my mails get route on the internet through another PC which has an internet connection

3. I have my DNS configured on a Windows Machine and i would prefer to use that so that my Windows based clients can easily look for new mail server. or do i need DNS Server in Linux as well

4. Can i migrate all my existing Exchange Server to Scalix Server with any tool or utility

If you want certain users to only have mailboxes of certain sizes, then yes, easily done.

Yes. Search for SmartHost and fetchmail in the forum for information.

As long as all the needed entries are there, you have no issues.

Scalix offers a Migration Tool for the commercial versions. There's also one available called eShuttle. I have used imapsync with mixed results. If all else fails, you can always migrate via .PST files as well.

Thanks Valerion !! I have successfully installed Scalix 11.4

1. can you please guide me can i integrate Active Directory with community Edition by any mean

2. I do have my smtp mail.mycompany.org if i change default SMARTHOST in sendmail.mc to my own smtp address then will it forward the email to the internet as my Scalix server is directly not connected to the internet./

3. I have 2 types of users. One can send/receive external emails and the other ones can only send/receive emails to local users. If i arrange those users in two different groups then can i be able to grant permission for external emails or just sendreceive local emails through Scalix or i can make a check on this

You can use the instructions in the Setup guide for Kerberos interaction. This will work correctly. To manage users from AD you will need to firstly extend the AD schema to include the Scalix-specific attributes, then use omldapsync to create a sync agreement.

You can write a script that regularly (daily? hourly?) reads the members of a group and run ommodu automatically to adjust the service level of a specific user.
