Migration from Samsung Contact

Hi All,

My email is currently run on Samsung Contact, however Samsung have decided to discontinue production. Scalix seems a logical replacement as both are based on Openmail.

How easy would it be for me to migrate my existing mailboxes (all 3 of them!) over to Scalix? Exporting and imorting the data in PSTs is possible, however if Scalix and SC use the same server message store format I'd guess theres some clever tool for doing this at the server-side...?

Also, how compatible is the Web-based access with the Outlook connector? If I create calendar items or contacts in outlook, are they viewable/editable in the web client (and visa-versa)?

Hi Andy,

migration from Samsung Contact certainly is possible using native im-/export. That said, there are always intricasies when migration is involved. I would suggest setting up a test system and then migrate using omcpoutu on Samsung and omcpinu on Scalix. Theoratically, that should work.

In answer to your second question, yes, that is possible both ways.

believe Scalix is really your most natural upgrade path... Your installation is pretty small, so this should make life quite easy for you.

Things to watch out for....

1. Keep your mailnode and user names exactly the same (i.e. all X.400 attributes)
2. check the consistency of your message store on the Samsung side before export, using omscan -Aavf. Fix all errors that might occur.
3. omcpoutu/omcpinu your data on the server side.
4. on the Scalix side, add the following to settings to your general.cfg config file:
UAL_MAPI_ADD_CN_FIELD=TRUE
SR_RESOLVE_MASK=8
Restart your Scalix system to activate those settings.
5. Obviously, you'll have to recreate your Outlook profiles after installing Scalix Connect for Outlook.

Scalix will provide you with numerous improvements over your existing Samsung Contact system, including but not limited to
- Full support for Outlook 2003
- Fully-interoperable support for Calendars, Contacts and Public Folders in Outlook and Scalix Web Access
- Easier installation with Scalix Installer and administration through Scalix Admin Console
- AD Integration and Kerberos-based Outlook Single Sign On
- Coexistence with MS-Exchange and data migration
plus literally thousands of bugfixes and minor improvements; even the command line interface has yet become more powerful.

Again, though Scalix has changed quite a bit, we've remained downward-compatible; also, we've run a number of large-scale replacement and upgrade projects, so if you need more help, please contact Scalix sales or professional services!

Im also considering migration to scalix from SC..
another question regarding migration, any ideas on migrating the public folders in a way that I dont loose the acces rights on them for the different branches/

any help would be appreciated

Having migrated several thousand seats from OpenMail and Contact installations, our Professional Services team has vast experience with all kinds of required migration scenarios; we don't yet provide a full toolchain with the product at this time, but if you contact your Scalix rep, you'll be able to get some good help.
