I notice on the website that it states that activesync will be realeased with 11.4.1 and will be activated by way of a licence, does that mean those of us using the community edition will not be able to use this functionality. Or how much for a licence, I am hoping to get the new iPhone 3G and have installed Scalix after reading about the up and comming activesync functionality.

ActiveSync will only be available as an add-on option for Scalix Small Business Edition and Scalix Enterprise Edition, so Community Edition users who want to use it will have to upgrade to one of the commercial versions.

Hope that helps,

For pricing information, please contact Scalix Sales or one of our resellers as prices may differ in various markets.

See http://www.scalix.com/enterprise/products/howtobuy.php for details.

Thanks for letting me know, I have checked out the resellers and the licence is too expensive as there are only 2 of us therefore we cannot justify it, looks like we will have to go for a hosted exchange account.

Postby Stefan Dierkes » Thu Jul 31, 2008 2:27 am

I am wondering if ActiveSynch for wireless synch with iPhone is now available or not? How can I test the Beta version?

I contacted Xandros support yesterday (Jul 30) and was told the Beta is not available yet.

Gday,

I love scalix let me say that. I also love the iPhone, and so do the three managing directors that are intent on using them.

I need the activesync!!!!!

Please can you allude as to when we will see it?

It's between QA and development now and depends on how these final rounds of testing goes before we'll launch Beta 1. The particular additional test cases introduced by the iPhone set us back from our original schedule. I'll not dare give a date as there is too much in the air right now, but I tend to believe it'll be later this month.

Here's a question:

Will ActiveSync mean that we can now use the "exchange-only" feature of S/MIME support on our Windows Mobile clients?

Our business is big on encrypting mails. But mobile handsets by and large don't support S/MIME encryption - so reading mails on mobiles is at times not possible. (The lack of S/MIME on smart phone developers roadmaps is somewhat disheartening.) However, we have read that Exchange users already benefit from S/MIME encryption support on Windows Mobile devices.

So for those of us with Windows Mobile devices, we wonder if the ActiveSync connection will require Exchange-type accounts to be set up on clients, rather than the imap accounts we currently use (and if so, do we then get to upload our certificates to the mail client so we can finally read encrypted mail)?

Of course, we will find out soon when ActiveSync comes out and we can test this. But its a hot topic right now for us, so any hints either way would be helpful!

Cheers
Andy

What's for certain is that you will need to setup an Exchange-type account - not IMAP - on your mobile device. On the S/MIME side - this is not on the list of requirements for the initial release of Active Sync - so we don't specifically do any testing here at this point, but it's certainly something we're keeping on the radar. A general ramp-up in encryption/signing features for email will be part of a future Scalix release, although it is also noted that many organisations gravitate towards gateway-level (i.e. inbound and outbound internet messages) email security (like PGP universal or Julia Mail Office) because they don't really want data inside people's mailboxes to be encrypted due to archiving and possible auditing/litigation requirements.

Cheers,

Hello Florian,

What is the present status of ActiveSynch? We are URGENTLY waiting for it to connect our mobile Palm Treo and iPhone Users. Can we participate in the beta program with our company?

Regards,
Stefan Dierkes

The Beta is not out yet, however if you want to be registered for it, please go through your Scalix sales contact as they own the participation lists.

Is there any idea, when the beta will be out?

As soon as QA and Dev are happy with the quality and have ironed out some issues that we consider blockers for the Beta. For a brandnew and quite complex product, this has proven more difficult to estimate than we thought, so I'll give no more predictions here. Obviously it is in our best interest to release this as soon as possible.

I'm using it already and it works most of the time....

Do you expect that the server side is stable?

ActiveSync is meant to work with 11.4.1. Do you think this is still the case or will there by patches or other upgrades to get this feature working?
