IMAP will not delete messages

Postby FlashOver » Tue Jul 29, 2008 10:43 am

Hello everybody.

We have installed an 11.4.0. Cause if we accessed our mailboxes via IMAP (Outlook 2007 and Thunderbird) and olso with SWA, we have got some problems If we liked to delete a message. So we have done an update to the latest version 11.4.1 but without chaning our problem.

The problem is, if you delete a message, dooesn't matter if in SWA or an other Client, It isn't removing it. If we delete a mail in SWA - Logout - Login - there is the deleted Message again. Also If we do the same in Outlook.

Most of the time, If we mark a mail to be deleted within outlook and then click on purge marked mails to delte finaly - nothing is changing. mail is still lined and will stay where it is.

Can somebody tell me, how to fix that or how to do a work arround?

We already cleared IMAP caches, restarted services and the hole server. Is is maybe possible to reinstall the imap server itself again or change it with an courier imap or something like that?

hope to hear from somebody soon.

Hi FlashOver

OK the next thing to try is a MIME rebuild

omtidyu -MB -u "Fred Blogs"

if more that one users is affected then use

omtidyallu -M

This is a really disk intensive exercise so needs to be scheduled when your server is relativly idel.

make sure that when you clear the IMAP cache, the user is signed out.

omstat -u rci -c

will show you signed in users, and the client they are using. Note that especially with IMAP, the connection will remain for a while after the user has disconnected so that if the user reconnects, it happens faster. This has a performance benefit, but it's a pain when you're trying to clean up their cache.

The above command will also show a Process ID. Kill the process ID that the user has connected with.

Then, after you know they aren't connected, try clearing the IMAP cache again.

I've done like you adviceded. Now I have to wait a bit, cause we fault has appeared after a while - maybe 24 hours. If we create a new user, it works fine, doesn't matter how active the account will be used. So, the fault is comming after a while without any trace, why.

Any more ideas if it couldn't be fixe with this solution?

Thank you very much.

Let's just wait. That should solve the problem. What you've described is a corrupt cache.

Error returned and now the solutions isn't working again. Have done it three times again without any luck. At the first time try, it worked absolutely fine.

Now, I can not delete any messe in MS Outlook again or mark it as not to delete or anything like that. Viewing is working fine, but we have to delete some spam mails in our inboxes.

Any more ideas how to fix that?
we already updates to 11.4.1.
