Possible to relay through Scalix 11.4 ?

Postby brookwood8 » Tue Jul 15, 2008 12:09 pm

I have been trying (unsuccessfully) to do the following:

I have a webserver that is hosting a few small web sites, each with a different domain name. The webserver needs to send email from these domains to external email addresses.

I have configured the web server's SMTP service to use a Scalix (v11.4) server as a "smart host". If I telnet to port 25 of the Scalix server I have no problem sending email to an external email account - If I use the domain name that is part of the FQDN for the server.
What I can't do is relay mail from the other domains through the Scalix server. The error message I see is "Domain of sender does not exist". The error message leads me to believe this is a "DNS" issue rather than a Scalix issue.

So..how are people doing this kind of setup? There are DNS host entries for each of the domains I need to send from. (www.domain1.com, www.domain2.com as well as PTR records for each host entry)

Have a solution...

I was able to get this working. In case anyone needs to do the same:

change the sendmail.mc file by adding the "Accept Unresolvable Domains" feature and add your web server's IP address to the access table. Make sure you update the access table with "make hash" and then run "omsendin" to update sendmail.cf / restart sendmail.

After making these changes I was able to send an email via the web server and relay through the Scalix server. Note - this particular setup will never be accepting email directly, so the "unresolvable domain" is not a security issue for me.

If you have a "better" way - please feel free to share the solution.
