User can't login - Bad magic number in a serialised file

Postby Christian Gielstrup » Mon Jan 23, 2006 5:21 am

Hi,

I hope somebody can help me with with this problem.
One and only one of my users can't login.
From any type of client, web/T-Bird have even tried with outlook, the user is told that the password is wrong. Changing the password does not help.

This is the error messages from the IMAP service and local delivery service, when looking in the event log.

The user is an administrator (me ) and it's possible to log into SAC.

Hope anyone can give me some hints

Hello,

local delivery is unable to deliver a message to this user as some of the files seem to have gone foobar. You need to use omcontain to fix the users mailbox.

Type in omcontain and enter the password. I will provide you with the password when you send a note to support _at_ scalix.com.

If this is an important account you may consider purchasing a support incident.

Cheers,

Sascha.

It's not looking good. Can you ls -al the user directory and does it contain files? Failing that, looks like restore is an attractive alternative. What happened prior to your problem. Surely your /var/opt/scalix/logs/fatal must have something.

Cheers,

Sascha.

Hi Sascha,

had to restore :-(, but thanks for your help.
The corruption was caused by a fatal power outage to the servers..
A journalized format of the message store would had been nice :-)

/var/opt/scalix/logs/fatal just confirms the error:

[OM 28881] Bad magic number in a serialised file.
Pid of logging process: 25381

Thanks again for your assistance.

Best regards,

Christian

I searched for 'Bad magic number' and came upon this thread, but I don't have the exact same error. My error is :

Code: Select all

SERIOUS ERROR           Background Sea(Background Sea) Sun Apr 16 10:13:00 2006
[OM 28880] Bad magic number in an item header record.
Pid of logging process: 22204

This is in the output of ommon

I don't have a fatal log file in /var/opt/scalix/logs

Any ideas?
