Hi,
Has anyone any experience of Acronis for the backup of Linux/Scalix systems?

Seems OK
The issue is quessing the server while you are backing it up.
1) You can omshut the server for the backup period
2) You can use LVM to snapshot the system while live then spool the snapshot to tape.
Be SURE to preserve permissions when doing your backup.
Alternativly you can backup to a tar file (preserving permissions) and add that to your normal system backup.
