Postby Luke512 » Mon Feb 25, 2008 4:27 am

is there any live chat forum, like it is for many other software, for example in the irc channel?

i think it would be a useful help for many people here if you can diskuss or solve a problem directly

It could be a good idea, and I am sure one could be created. However, I know I would not be able to join, for example, as I am far too busy to do that. But there may be volunteers willing to assist with this.

I suggest you run the suggestion past Florian and see what he says.

For what its worth, I'd be happy to idle in an IRC channel to help people out.

:-) if you don't know me, you probably haven't been following the forum for too long.

Not sure here, honestly. What I can say is that we as Scalix could not really spend too much time on an online channel for providing support - and we would/should also not provide real-time support (which naturally would have a good SLA!) in competition with our own commercial support offerings. This forum is best-effort from our side and I assume that everybody understands that it needs to be this way for us to run a sustainable organisation.

So while I can see us technically hosting such a channel, I would not want to create the impression with this that it's an official way into our system.

Now, furthermore, while I am quite wired and online, IRC is one thing I don't live in; assume the same is also true for some of the other more frequent writers. I am quite sure that some of the Scalix Stars would not be able (they have day jobs!) to contribute.

So... bottom line is that I am somewhat skeptical about the feasibility of this, but if enough people here chime in that they would contribute and listen in, I'm certainly willing to provide the environment for it from our side.

Tx,
Florian.

Hello,

I think it would be a good idea, if there were enough users interested. As said Scalix would not provide support, however other users could talk in real-time and maybe get their issues solved faster?

Time is an issue of course and during my work day I am all over the place in meetings, taking care of users, and when I get a chance- hop on the forum with issues, and to help others.

I think it could work, but not sure if we would have enough people/interest to make sure it happens.

Just my thoughts on this.
