Outlook: Task grouping in customized view fails

Postby ahathaway » Thu Jan 12, 2006 6:03 pm

The Scalix Outlook Connector appears to prevent task grouping in customized views.

To reproduce, open Customize View in Task window. Choose "Group By..." and choose any field for grouping. When leaving the Customize View dialog, Outlook shows the following error:

"The sorting or group by operation failed. Either these folders do not support sorting or the conditions are too complex. Sorting and group by settings have been reset."

This same procedure works with non-Scalix connector profiles. Can anyone else confirm, and if so, is there any hope of this getting fixed?

The news is that Group By functionality isn't available in the current versions of Scalix.

The better news is that this is going to be a feature of the next release which is due Q1 06.

Group By working, but filtering now broken

I'm delighted to see the Group By functionality in the version 10 connector, but it breaks filter functionality. It will let you build any sort of filter, but the filters have no effect on the view, unfortunately.

What makes this a pain is that within Tasks view, if you turn on Group By functionality, there's no way to filter out completed tasks. The user ends up having to stare at all tasks, completed and uncompleted.

Any chance of this getting fixed? At least with the Group By functionality, the connector made it clear that it wasn't supported. For filtering, it simply ignores the settings.

Hi Aaron,

I've reported this in our developer's database.

Hi,

It turns out I share the same interest and concerns for this issue. Would you have -by any chances- got any news back on the part of the developpers so far?

P.S.: I am currently using Scalix Connect version 10.

Regards,

Simon

This request is currently slated for consideration in the next major Scalix release.
Given the type and nature of the change (having reviewed the bug) I don't believe this is something that we could readily include in a patch release.

As I'm sure you appreciate we have to factor a number of issues when deciding what functionality to deliver and when.

Your bug is is a valid one and will be considered for the future release, but for the moment we can not give you a commitment or timescale for addressing it.

Sorry I can't be more specific at this time.

Cheers,
JG

Good to know.

Thanks for the feedback. I was allready suspecting it might come more as a correction on the next release, then a fix. It suits me anyways.

I'll arm myself with patience t'ill then.

Good'day!

Group By + Filtering fixed?

Postby ahathaway » Thu Jan 04, 2007 2:43 pm

Any word on whether this is fixed in Scalix 11?

I keep bringing it up because a number of Outlook Add-ons require this functionality. Also, the standard GTD method of configuring Outlook is borderline useless without this ability.

Group By + Customize Current View filtering fails in Tasks

Postby ahathaway » Fri Jan 05, 2007 12:31 pm

Florian,

My apologies. I really should have started a new thread to avoid confusion.

Yes, group-by now works, but not simultaneously with filters (custom view), at least not in tasks. It appears to work with email messages, however. I haven't tested it with calendar items yet.

I opened a bug report for it here:

Group-by and Filters

It has been about 2 years since this bug was reported and the final reply was that it will be fixed in a major release. When is the next release with this fix scheduled to be available?

Thanks.

No news on this yet? 4 years later and no solution?
Will this be fixed in 11-4.7 or 11.5?
