Moving scalix data

Postby propagandhi » Wed Jan 02, 2008 1:04 am

Hi there,

Anybody have a clue as to how I could move all the scalix data onto another partition on the same machine, without forcing a full re-install?

I basically want to mount a 2TB partition and have scalix use that partition for its data storage, postgres data and all.

How could it be moved somewhat elegantly? Could I perhaps stop all scalix services and postgres if necessary and then copy /var/opt/scalix to the new partition and then mount that new partition as /var/opt/scalix???

Will this work or will I be damaging something??

I would suggest doing a tar, then untarring on the second drive. Be careful of using cp as you NEED to preserve ownerships and permissions. You can then easily mount the drive on /var/opt/scalix and test. If everything works, unmount the second drive, delete the old mailstore, remount and away you go.

I find it useful that mount can sometimes hide data, though it may not allow you to mount where data already exists. If so you will have to delete the old mailstore before testing the new copy.
