Deleting individual messages from the store

Postby Dunkirk » Sat Dec 22, 2007 9:09 am

An anti-virus scan on the hard drive has turned up several email messages with phishing scams. I'd like to just blow these away from people's inboxes at the server. Armed with the actual file name, like <scalix home>/s2/s/data/000000j/0004on1, is there an "om*" command I can run to just delete it, so that the user doesn't have to be involved?

One of these days, I need to figure out how to integrate this with Scalix... Are there any good README's out there on how to integrate BOTH spamasssassin and clamav with Scalix?

I've discovered `omdelete' and `omlogon'. I can login with the administrative account (sxadmin), but that doesn't seem to allow me to delete messages from other people's queues. (It says their accounts are locked, and I know they aren't.) There's an option on omdelete to call out a different user to run the command against, but I guess you would just use that in conjunction with putting in a password. Is there a way to go through an administrative account to avoid this?

the best way to clean up mailboxes is omtidyu/omtidyallu.
You would have to know some data like Sender, Subject etc.
There is is report mode for this tool (-R). Just have a look at the man page.
This should be the preferred way.

The hard way would be to delete the files the AV-scanner has found. If they are in ˜/data/ the result will be that you have have some inconsistencies in the message-store.
If you run a "omscan -A -U username" afterwards some "missing children" will be detected.
This is the expected result as we have deleted items. A omscan with "-f" should be able to fix.
Please note that especially the last way is not an official advice ;-).
You should have a working backup in case you deleted essientially files, omscan can not fix the problems and you have messed up the mailboxes.

Re. the Spamassassin/clamav question: Have you read http://www.scalix.com/wiki/index.php?title=HowTos/Amavisd ?
