ClamAV, Spamassassin via sendmail or with scalix or postfix?

Postby dwerthmu » Mon Dec 17, 2007 11:57 am

I've seen two main ways to configure the antivirus(Clamav) and anti-spam (spamassassin) to protect a Scalix mailbox store.
1) integrated with Sendmail

and

2) integrated with scalix

I've run clamav and spamassassin on postfix before so I don't know enough to decide how to set this up.

3) possibly run a dedicated mail gateway box(postfix with clamav/spamassassin) and run webmail through it too. Currently use this to protect mailboxes on exchange 5.5.

Pros ?
Cons of each?

Thanks

I guess it depends on your network setup. If you have alot of volume a dedicated machine would probably be the best option. If you are just using your Scalix server sendmail + amavis works good. Scalix SMTP accepts the mssages and then passes them on to sendmail. This is good because if there's a config issue with your filter the mails are held by Scalix for a day or two while you try to sort out the issues. Never used direct integration with Scalix....
