"backup" without omcpoutu?

Postby Athropos » Sun Dec 16, 2007 8:29 am

Hi!

I've got Scalix 11.2 running on openSUSE 10.2 and I already managed to create a working backupscript, using omcpoutu.

The Problem is, that I get Error [OM.PM 1004] when I backup a specific mailbox. Omscan (only scanning) shows several "Bad extensions..."

So, before I try to repair that specific mailbox, I would like to "backup" Scalix (it would be sufficient if I just copied a specific directory, which one?)

I'd like to know too, how risky it would be trying to repair that mailbox using omscan?

Or any other ideas, how I could solve that problem.

Thx!

Hi

Omscan shows orphan files. they play no part in the scalix file system

You can safely backup using omcpoutu or sxmboxexp

the other method for backup is to backup /var/op/scalix/*

You need to preserve permissions. If you use LVM this will be a non disruptive backup. If you do not use LVM you will have to shut the scalix server down during the backup. omshut and when you have finished to restart Scalix omrc

unfortunately, if you cannot use omcpoutu to backup the mailbox, the only good option is to use omscan on that individual mailbox.
The elements reporting bad extensions are already unusable, so you would be best fixing it now.

As Mike says...you could backup the /var/scalix filesystem, but if you restore that you will still be left with the errors (there are issues in that mailbox with pointers (in the ~scalix/user*/g* directory) to the message store (~scalix/data).

If you want to pinpoint the area within the mailbox causing the problems, you could copy out each area individually (see the omcpoutu man page)

omcpoutu -n <name> -S i -f /tmp/intray

etc etc
