Patching CentOS4

Does anyone keep up with regular patching on any of the CentOS platforms? I have slacked off a bit, worried about incompatible libraries and the like breaking Scalix. Would like to hear some first hand experience.

We have been using / patching CentOS without issue since 4.0 and now 5.1
No issues
We normall update regularly and cycle the server(s) at Christmas to pick up kernel updats which have happen through out the year.

Works for us and our clients so far.

I am in the same boat as Doug, running 4.x and afraid to patch else, broken Scalix...

Are you saying that you patched all the way up to 5.x from 4.0?

Did you do some kind of upgrade install or just yum updates????

I may wait and do my patching AFTER 11.3 comes out since it is supposed to support Centos even when the OS is correctly labeled as Centos.... Do the patches re-write the "hack" that names Centos as Redhat?

No we started at 4.0 and patched every few weeks, spasmodically all the way to 4.3 & 4.4 then when 5.0 came along we put scalix on that and have since patched thye CentOS 5 server about 5 or 6 times. Heaps of downloads but worth it.

Of course LVM did not work in 4.0 till about 4.3 so we were keep to get successive updates after that. WE HAVE never had an issue so far, touch wood.

Patching has never been a problem for me. i use many CentOS 4.x and 5.x systems. Updates are applied as they come through.

Inplace upgrades shouldn't be a problem.

As long as your scalix version is still supported in the newer version it should be fine.

p.s. if you mean re-writing the /etc/redhat-release file to make it look like Redhat as the hack....you only needed to do that for the installer, then you make it look like CentOS again.

There has existed an installer switch since 11.1 (i think) - "--override-release=rhel5" which makes the hack unnecessary.
