Multiple Email-Accounts and different smart hosts

I just set up a scalix sever. Now I have a basic question.
how is it possible to assign multiple emails to a user? The user should be able to choose over witch email-address (smart host) a new message will be delivered.
The scalix server is in an local lan with a non public domain name. I have 4 smart hosts over witch I can send emails. According to the chosen email-address, the right smart host should be used.

Actually I have one smart host in the sendmail config and a user has one email with the local domain. before the sending process the local email address is translated to a valid address of the smart host. that's the only possibility to send an email over this smart host. other domains are not accepted.

So, based on the email address with witch a message should delivered, the right smart host should be chosen by sendmail.
But how can I add multiple emails to one account and how do I tell sendmail witch smart host should be used??

any ideas??

I can't believe that there is no possibility to send messages over different email accounts?
I'm pretty sure that nearly everyone is using / would like to use this "feature" isn't it??

You cannot use Outlook or SWA to send as multiple email addresses, unless you use delegation. Yes, it is something I want as well However, doing it through an IMAP/POP3 client works.

I just can't think of a way to direct to multiple smarthosts based on the sender address, it is fairly easy to do based on the recipient's domain.

and what about if I configure different domains? Based on the chosen domain (From field), when I write a new message, it should be possible to use different smart hosts for each source-domain?? isn't it?

All I need is something the check in sendmail from witch domain the message was sent. based on that, the right smart host can be used!?

Unfortunately this is out of my field of expertise in sendmail. You will have to contact a sendmail expert, or look in the sendmail documentation.

Seems to be a bit complicated but works fine.

I'm still wondering how it works if scalix is used in a company with a lot of users which like to use different smtp-servers ?? do they have to use all the same one? and what about if the primary smtp-server fails, is there a possibility in scalix to use an other one??

Mmm ... at a quick glance it doesn't look too hard to do.

Scalix doesn't use an SMTP server for UAL connections (via Outlook), and it uses its own SMTP server for POP3/IMAP/SWA connections, so that should never go down either. For outgoing mail a different MTA is used (usually either sendmail or postfix). It is the job of this MTA to deliver outgoing email, Scalix is acting as a mail client in this scenario.

So if you need to select a fall-back mechanism, you need to put it in the sendmail config files. I know sendmail has got the concept of differing delivery locations and links, and costs associated with each (cost here can be e.g. latency, not just money), so I am certain it's possible.
