upgrading license

Postby wis.fs » Sun Nov 25, 2007 10:38 am

hello,

i've installed a scalix trial edition (or is it CE? or trial = CE without SB key?).

now i got my key for SB. how should i install the key? first remove the temporary key and then install the SB key? sounds logical but i dont know what is happening to my configured users when there is no key for a short time (the time between removing the temp. key and installing the SB key). is there any risk? dont wanna do the whole work twice.

thanks.

What I did was simply opening the license file with an editor (vi for example). Remove all lines in the files. Then paste the new license key into the file and then save the file. This worked fine for me. Upgrading the license through sac doesn't work for me unfortunately.

We've just received an updated temporary testing license, but I can't access sac at the moment. Can anybody please tell me where the key file is so I can update it with the email we received from Scalix?

Thanks,

Sean

The license key is located at <scalixhome>/LicenseKeys/

You can use the sxlicense command to show information about your license. This will also show the location of the license file.

Hi Kris,

I looked there - in /opt/scalix, and there is no license directory. Am I looking in the wrong place?

<scalix home> is not /opt/scalix.
It is at /var/opt/scalix/??/

?? depends on your servername, in my case, the name of the server is "scalixserver", the ?? is "sr" for me. So first and last character of your hostname.

In my case, the license is at /var/opt/scalix/sr/s/LicenseKeys/permanent.lic

But you can easily find out using the sxlicense command I mentioned.

Apologies, I have however just looked in /var/opt/scalix and all there is under there is a mt directory. Underneath that are these directories:

caa/ indexes/ mobile/ platform/ postgres/ res/ s/ sis/ tomcat/ webmail/

The sxlicense command only returns the following, no file or path info:

Scalix License Status

License Type: Community
System Class: Single-Server
Premium Users: 25
Standard Users: unlimited

Any ideas? I'm a bit stumped now.

Thanks for your help,

Sean

New License Key

Postby dorian » Thu Dec 20, 2007 10:31 am

Hi,

I have a similar problem.
Trying to update the license key from SAC doesn't work.
The wizard keeps creating new files named cumulative-x.lic in the LicenseKeys directory with the ipdated information but Scalix doesn't refresh the licensing.

What would be the proper alternative way to do that? I would have edited the permanent.lic file with vi but I am not sure about the consequences.

Thanks,

Dorian

Make a backup of permanent.lic (in case something goes wrong), then insert the license information in the file and run sxlicence -r followed by sxlicense to see if the license gets picked up correctly.

Make sure you copy everything, from --Scalix License Key to --Scalix License End (inclusive).

Thanks

It worked.

Thank you Valerion.
