How do public tasks / calendar work? Am I missing something?

Postby TCWardrobe » Sat Nov 10, 2007 12:09 pm

Hi folks,

everythings works fairly well and now I try to figure out how to use scalix as for what it was intended to be. It is years ago I played around with Exchange and those days we just used very less of Exchanges / Outlook features... so even knowing "it works like exchange did" does not help here, could someone pinpoint me to some screencasts or documentation or provide me with some hints about such scenarios:

1) Shepherd wants to assign tasks, want to be able to see all tasks and there status from his sheep.
2) Shepherd wants to see what dates his sheep have and when. Boss may want to set and cancel dates for his sheep.

I played around a bit and I think I do understand the delegate stuff including rights and permissions correctly. But what I do not get exactly is the above scenarios and the free/busy stuff. For example I add some folks to a meeting in the calendar but I don't see if they are available... did I miss something there too?

EDIT: doh! I just realised the tasks view has (nearly) the same options as the calendar view has, so basic functionality for the shepherd would be to just delegate the tasks and open those tasks in the tasks view. Anyhow, some more "groupware" hints? Free/Busy still an issue :)

EDIT2: doubledoh! I don't know why but everytime I did check the calendar for free busy information from other attendees it did not show anything, now it does from one day to another even I did check this for several days now... is there somewhere a setting for the free/busy options? Like update interval and such stuff?

Hi,

Free/busy information is updated by Outlook every 15 minutes or when you close the program. Some people in our company are using calendars now instead of tasks, because for some strange reason on Scalix when a task is due, it brings up all the other tasks that aren't due yet!

Andrew.

Hi Andrew,

I found in the outlook options the right thing (thought it would be rather a scalix setting... anyhow):
Outlook menu > Extras (Tools? I have a german Outlook) > tab "settings" > button "Calendar options" > button "free/busy options"
There you can change the 15 minutes interval to a more convenient setting, For testing purposes I did set it to 1 minute.

It seems I have to ask here first before I can find the answers myself somehow :)

greets
Michael
