ActiveSync

I am looking for an alternative to Microsoft Exchange.
The great thing about Exchange is that you can sync any
mobile telephone to Exchange. Mail is pushed, contacts, calendar,
etc. are synced with an app called "ActiveSync".

However, it is expensive.

I have found several forum articles about implementing ActiveSync
in Scalix.

I conclude that it must exist. But I can't find anything
in the documentation or in the sales information. Perhaps it is called
something else, like NotifyLink or something.

The most promising thing I found was this:

Anyway, can someone confirm or deny the existence of ActiveSync
for Scalix, and in what editions they are found? Ideally, it would be
drop-in compatible with the app on my phone which works with Exchange.
Also, a pointer to the documentation would be useful.

Thanks. Which "edition" will it be part of, when it does come out?

It is possible that I will wait until next year if you guys really are
going to do this.

The exact marketing/sales/pricing strategy for the feature has not yet been determined, but I assume it is fair to say that it is going to be available for all commercial editions, i.e. SBE, EE and for hosted environments.

Will it be available for premium users of the community edition?

I think actually the best course of action for me is to use Exchange.
If Scalix releases something that receives rave reviews, has the same
functionality, and is cheaper, I'll consider it at that time. But for now,
I need a solution and can't wait for something that is so far away.

It is a real shame that Microsoft is the only company offering a
messaging solution for business users that encompasses mail,
calendar, tasks, contacts, and is available via ActiveSync, Outlook,
and the Web.

Google's solution is a long way from being competitive.

I am not too familiar with Blackberry's. Maybe it is there.

Most likely not; wireless capability is more relevant in commercial environments and we also have to see what value-add we provide to our commercial customers - this seems a very natural chocie.

Well, I admit it. I am a commercial customer.
But the nice thing about Scalix is that they offer many for-pay
services for free to 25 users of the free service. This way,
when the company grows, then they start to pay.

Sure - but for the sake of our commercial success (we've got bills to pay as well, believe it or not) and also for the happiness of our reseller partners, we have to provide increasing additional value for the commercial versions as well. We are committed to deliver new functionality to the community (and our next release, 11.3, will set another example of that with the availability of CalDAV services) as well, but obviously everything has to be carefully balanced......

Anyway, looking forward to your possible feedback once this is available.
