Possibility of using existing mail server for mail

I have a well configured mail server, and am looking for a groupware product that can integrate with it.

Is it possible to configure Scalix to use a different IMAP server for mail storage. Currently we run courier-imap on qmail, and have many custom options in qmail for anti-spam and anti-virus and would like to keep our existing mail server setup as is, but would like a groupware that can work on top of that.

That is the situation we were in late last year. We (still) have a primary server that does most of the anti-spam, anti-virus, filtering, forwarding tasks. We introduced scalix as a secondary system, mainly for the shared calendaring features it offered. We also considered the possibility of having it integrated in the same hardware. Overtime we found out that Scalix was a much more complex and complete solution, integrating many pieces of open source software, and very cleverly orchestrated together by the Scalix team. Definitely not something to be messed with.

Today we see Scalix more like an appliance box, to be respected on its our ride, and we have practically migrated all of our accounts and functionally to the Scalix system. We're now considering still keep Scalix as a secondary enterprise mail system, strictly with that purpose, and re-purpose the primary server as a dedicated anti-virus/anti-spam box, possibly a commercial appliance.

It is also technically not possible to run Scalix on top of other IMAP servers. The integrated message store, providing for such services as complete MAPI property storage, efficient storage optimization based on a single-copy object store and deep calendaring/email integration with full Outlook support requires a tight coupling of the store with the rest of the system.

It's not quite true that we integrate many open source components; while we use some, most of our core technology has been developed in-house, originally by HP, then later by ourselves. And some of that happened even before the term Open Source was ever coined.....

So... to give you the full Scalix experience, it is heavily recommended to go with Scalix all the way. It shouldn't be *that* hard.
