Pop-ups blocked error on XP but have disabled in Internet Op

Postby deyjvu » Mon Nov 07, 2005 2:29 am

I have Win/XP with SP2 on my PC - when I try to access our Scalix server URL I get the error advising that the software I have loaded has pop-up blockers enabled and that this may interfere with Scalix. However, I have been into Internet Options and DISABLED the pop-up blocker plus on the toolbar is an icon that if I click on it, it says "pop-ups allowed for this site" being my Scalix server.

Evidently there is one more item I have not enabled or disabled but I can't work out what it is? Can you help?

This is of course only an issue with IE and Mozilla works just fine.

Hi Deyjvu,

If you look at the settings for pop-up blocker do you see your web site for SWA? Also try holding down the Ctrl+Shift key as you login to SWA.

Thanks,
Don

Added to pop-up settings and tried ctrl+shift - 1 blocked it

Hi Don,

Thanks for the suggestions and I added the Scalix server name to the pop-up settings list but still get an error that shows up when I log on holding down the ctrl+shift key.

The tool bar shows that there is 1 Blocked item. I've tried turning the pop-up block off and reconnecting but it still happens. Have turned it back on and added - or tried to add - a wild card entry for the domain name of the server but I still can not get connected with IE. eg. *.domain.com and domain.com.

Hi Dyjvu,

This really sounds like an IE problem or a DNS problem. What happens when you go to other sites that have pop-ups? If OK then check the ip address and FQDN in your DNS server. Try adding the ip address and FQDN to your hosts file on your pc.

Thanks,
Don

I'm having the same problem.

I'm running XP SP2 with Norton Internet Security and Norton Antivirus. Everything has been set to allow popups from the site. I get a blank popup and the same alert as the original poster.

Our company is using Scalix extensively and it is important that it works.

Any suggestions?

By the way, it works on all the other computers on our network, just not mine. And other sites that I have allowed popups from work fine.

It sounds like you have another pop up blocker running.
The toolbar you mentioned that shows one blocked item. Where is that from? I don't believe that I have seen it in the default install of IE or Firefox (only browsers I have played with on a Windows machine). Is there a chance you have the Yahoo toolbar or the Google toolbar installed? Those both come with a pop-up blocker. Can you disable it and try to log in again? I don't believe those toolbars pick up the settings from your Internet options, and probably have their own file. Worst case scenario, uninstall the toolbar that you have installed and see what happens.

I did not mention a toolbar that shows one blocked item. I do not have Google or Yahoo, or anything else.

Sorry Chefry. I read that on deyjvu's post.

It looks like Norton Internet is playing tricks on you. Please hold the Ctrl-key and klick on the login button. That should force a second window to appear with your mailbox. If it does, you need to look into Nortons config. The fact that all other computers on your network do not have an issue makes me believe it is a local configuration issue.

Mozilla works fine!

Just to conclude this problem I had, I decided to abandon IE as the only solution there would have been an install - painful - so I decided on diversion... installed Mozilla/firefox and all is working beautifully.
