Scalix Migration Problem

Postby nuno.mesquita » Mon Aug 06, 2007 6:03 am

I've recently deployed a installation of Scalix 11.1, in which I have some users using it.
But it i need to add much more users.
The problem is that the users have to be created in Scalix with the same email that they are using on another system.
For that when an Scalix user send an email, to any external user who already has an scalix account, the email goes to the local Scalix user and it should go to the external one.

How I can prevent this? :?

Your question is *very* unclear.

You say you have your Scalix server running and serving mailboxes for "some" users. Right ? Ok ... Then I guess you have Scalix configured to be authoritative for some sort of email domain. Right ?
Ok ... let's assume your email domain is anydomain.com

Now from what I understand from your message you already have *another* email server where *other* users have their mailbox and this second email server is *also* configured to accept emails for anydomain.com. Am I right again ?

If till here I am right then ... what do you mean when you say *I have to create more scalix accounts whith the same email address configured on the other server* ? Do you need to migrate them from the *old* server to the new one ? Or whatever ?

When you say "when an Scalix user send an email, to any external user who already has an scalix account, the email goes to the local Scalix user and it should go to the external one." that is NOT a problem because this is right the expected behavior. Accounts are no more "external" if configured within Scalix. You can't prevent such a behavior.

But there is more ... I guess on your secondary server users trying to send emails to the ones configured on your new Scalix server fall in the same problem. Isn't it ?

Hi,

I went through this and did two things:

1. On the Scalix server, I told Sendmail to send any unknown mail coming to domain.com to a specific server - which ran the old email system. I did this using the /etc/mail/mailertable file - I entered something like this:

domain.com ESMTP::[oldmail.domain.com]

Then do make -C /etc/mail. (my memory is a bit vague here since I did it a few months ago).

The other thing we needed to do on the Scalix server is to add in another email address in the console for those who were moving to Scalix. For example, user@mail.domain.com. We then set up a forwarder on the old server, for those addresses which had moved over to the new server, to forward them to user@mail.domain.com, which forwarded them to Scalix.

This worked for us.
Andrew.
