how to send emails with ext. adr. ?

Postby funkmenera » Fri Jun 29, 2007 8:53 am

Hi !

Well, i'm happy that scalix is runnin at all :)
So, sending emails in the local domain is no problem - e.g. sxadmin@localdomain..xx to funk.menera@localdomain.xx

But what i'm wondering about is, how to send emails via an mail-hoster e.g. gmx.net.
How do i manage this ?

do i have to tell scalix the second address or the ''world address" of the users .. like funk.menera@localdomain.xx has an account at funkmenera@mailhoster.de ?
or do i have to tell sendmail that the local address funk.menera@localdomain.xx should be masqueraded to funkmenera@mailhoster.de ?

Up tio now i only get a email back from the server with this ..

Code: Select all

Message could not be delivered to the following recipient:

    funkmenera@mailhoster.de

because: A mail transport failure occurred

Supplementary Information:

553 5.1.8 <funk.menera@localdomain.xx>... Domain of sender address funk.menera@localdomain.xx does not exist

:?:

Well there's another error message ... /var/log/mail.error

Code: Select all

Jun 29 14:51:11 esel sm-mta-rx[29836]: l5TCpBjV029836: SYSERR(root): collect: Cannot write ./dfl5TCpBjV029836 (bfcommit, uid=104, gid=107): Permission denied

any help is highly appreciated !
regards, funki

Do you mean you want to send outgoing mail though another SMTP server, ie. SmartHost?

If this is what you want, you can go here to see how to configure it:

Thanks for your reply !
And yes, that's what i want.

But i already made the steps as described in the HowTo.
Well, one thing i should maybe mention. The actual configuration is extracted from a HowTo i found somewhere else but that should work
http://www.neobiker.de/wiki/index.php?title=Scalix_mit_Debian_Etch#Webmail_per_DMZ-Proxy_und_SSL-Zugriff

meanwhile i found sth. in the knowledge base..
"ommodent -e G=John/S=Doe -n INTERNET-ADDR=john@sales.bigco.com"
should ad a internet address ...
but when i hit "omshowu" ... it lists the local-adr as internet-adr ...
Do i have to delete one first ?!
furthermore this lead to the circumstance, that the error-message-mails are delivered to the syadmin instead of to the user who originally wrote the mail :?

any idea ?

What domain do you have Scalix set up for?

You should set it for the domain of the emails you want outside people to send to.

I have set it up for the local domain ...

So, I'm confused right now ...
Do i have to set up a mailknode with the same name as the hoster e.g. gmx.de, freent.de ...
and ad a user corresponding to the real user ?
- I thought sendmail or so would simulate that ?!

If you are running the community edition, just add the proper domain in.

Then add the correct email address as the first address. That is the one they will respond with.

Hi !

So, i created a new virtual OS on my XEN-server
And SCALIX works :) after some configuration stuff .. ;)
also sending to the 'world' is no problem any more :) at least for one address ...

jiha !

Well, i think there was just a mistake or sth. i ddidn't understod in the configuration i used.
With the config from scalix it works :)

So now i have to make some thoughts about forwarding and multiple addressess, because i want one user to receive and send from multpile outside addressess ...
I'm sure i will find sth. in the knowledge base.
But if anybody could give me a hint, so that i don't have to search too long ;) would be great and highly appreciated !!!

regards and wish u all a nice day,
funki
