uninstall/reinstall?

Postby russh » Fri Jun 22, 2007 6:10 pm

I need to move my beta Scalix server into production, and after seeing the hairy warnings around changing hostname, thought it's simplest to uninstall Scalix 11, change the hostname, and reinstall it (and of course patch it to the new release!).

Any guidance - tips etc?

Russ.

If you're keeping the mailstore, then this will still leave you with issues. There is a WIKI thread about changing the hostname (and another about changing the IP)

http://www.scalix.com/wiki/index.php?ti ... ChangeFQDN

That might be easier than uninstall/reinstall. And as I said, if you're keeping the mailstore, you'll need to do it anyway.

I didn't keep a thing - no caches or mailstores. Recreated all the users from scratch after a new install. I don't seem to have a problem yet.

You'll be fine then.

The reason that changing hostnames is such a pain is that that info is buried all over the place. If that's deleted, then it won't matter at all.

start from scratch. You can import the mail via imap if you need it.
