Group Admin

Postby munwin » Wed Jun 20, 2007 2:58 am

Is it possible to assign group admin rights to a user ?
We have several groups, that management wish to have a staff member be able to modify members of those groups, as well as create and delete groups.
These groups are to be available to all users - just like currently.

I can make the user an Admin, but the user cannot log into the sac, nor can I see any way of editing the groups from within Outlook.

I have tried (in Outlook as the specified user) creating a new mail, clicking the To button, selecting a group, and clicking Properties, but I still cannot edit the group.

I have also made the User a Manager of a group - but in Outlook, I still cannot edit the group.

Any help much appreciated.
Mark.

Hi,

You should be able to make a user a member of the ScalixGroupAdmins in SAC, then this user should be able to log into SAC and manage groups (eventhough the user does not have scalix admin capability). As for Outlook, I don't believe editing Public Distribution List is possible.

Regards,
Danny

You can manage public distribution lists in outlook when the server is an exchange server and you make a person the owner of the list who you want to manage the names on the list. This is a very nice feature to have. List managers know who should be on the list, not admins.

The SAC approach only works if all the members of the list will be in the SYSTEM directory. This may not be the case if you use another directory for your organizations contacts. Or I suspect contacts in the Public Folder.
Like Org-contacts

When you open the distribution list in outlook that is hosted in a scalix server several tabs are missing. One of which allows you to add/change members names from the directory.

There has to be a way to make this work. Public distribution lists that only admins can add entries to from the command line doesn't fly. Personal distribution lists are just that personal. When groups of people are working together "collaborating" via email a public distribution list is the only way to go. Individual member names not included in each email, but just the lists name.

thoughts ?
