What is "Internet User"?

Postby transmodus » Tue Jun 19, 2007 7:06 pm

The documentation talks about two types, Premium and Standard. But in the SAC there is a third option to create an "Internet User". What is it for and how to use it?

Thanks.

It's just a way to have an external email listed in the scalix server. It doesn't actually have a mailbox. Some of the advantages:
1) it shows up under the "To:" field for new messages as a "system" user.
2) the email can be picked up for calendar scheduling by a premium/standard user
3) the email can be made part of a scalix group.

Can I forward messages to that Internet User?

If not, is there a mechanism to forward messages sent to a Scalix account to a non-Scalix user?

Thanks.

Here is an brief description of an *internet user* (from sac):
If the user is a Scalix mail user, then these are all aliases for the user's mailbox.
If the user is an external user, then only one external mail address should be provided.

Can I forward messages to that Internet User?
You (or anybody) can always "forward" the email to a recipient, just by *sending* it directly to the external user. But maybe this is not what you want.

If not, is there a mechanism to forward messages sent to a Scalix account to a non-Scalix user?
I guess what you want then is to send an email to a "fake" user on the scalix server, in another words, to an user that does not actually have a mailbox on the server, but still looks like a valid user on the scalix domain. I think you can do this just by editing the /etc/aliases file and putting an entry similar to ...
fakeuser: external_user_email

Then give the command "newaliases". The net effect is for the email to just bounce off the scalix server and out the door to teh recipient.

I think scalix has a sxaa tool or om* script to do the same thing.

Thanks for speedy replies. The vitality of this forum/support was one of the main factors we chose to go Scalix.

Actually, that's not what I am trying to accomplish. Let's say for whatever reason I am unable to check my Scalix e-mail. I can, though, check e-mail sent to my T-Mobile phone. So I would set anything that hits my mailbox to immediately and automatically be forwarded to my phone e-mail. Just to save time, I am *NOT* considering Scalix mobile solution at this time.

Is there way?

Thanks.

From the command line use the sxaa command.

It can be downloaded from here: http://www.scalix.com/wiki/index.php?title=Admin_Resource_Kit#Creating_rules_for_users_with_sxaa

You will want to do something like this:

Code: Select all

sxaa --user <User Name> --redirect <email address> --retain

This will tell scalix that all mail sent to <User Name> should be redirected to <email address> and a copy of the message should be kept in the scalix inbox.

Using redirect will keep the sender of the message the same. If you use forward, the sender will be the scalix user account.
