License key issue upgrading to 11.1

Postby Warlock » Sat Jun 16, 2007 11:03 pm

Hi,

I am currently upgrading my enterprise licensed version of Scalix from 11.0.4 to 11.1.
I get as far as entering the license key and then get the following error:

License key is only valid for packages issued before 2007-02-20, but Scalix Server was issued on 2007-06-01.

Please could anyone with a solution to this please advise - my server is down at the moment and I am going to have a lot of angry users come Monday morning.

Well, the solution is that you'll need a new license key. This was described in the release notes and the installer checked for it as well. Scalix 11.1 is a new release and as such is only available to customers with an active maintenance subscription.

If you do have that subscription, please just find your original license key download mail and click on the link - it should be still valid and produce a key with an updated LVID attribute.

If you need to extend your subscription, please contact Scalix Sales or a certified Scalix reseller to get a new key.

I ran in to the same problem last week. I just continued the install with out license. Then I accessed my email via SWA and located an email send to me earlier in the year with the new license key.

It's better to get the server up without license, at least your server will get incoming mail! If you paid your subscription fee, I'm sure you have an email somewhere with the link to the key.

good luck

I have to disagree and quite clearly so.

If you run an existing server with no valid license key, it will revert to community edition functionality. As a result, a maximum of 25 premium users are allowed in a single server situation, and your TNEF gateway is disabled. This means that if you had more than 25 premium users configured before the switch, your users won't be able to receive incoming emails any more and you will most likely lose incoming messages.

You should make sure that you have a valid license key before you start the upgrade. This is also why the installer does not let you proceed without you taking a decision on how to handle this.

Cheers,
Florian.

I just did the 10.x -> 11.1.0 upgrade tonight and I did not get warned at the "system check" step. It came up all green arrows. This might be a bugfix that has snuck back in. I did see the warning in the release notes, but I had already shut the system down.

I concur, this license LVID check thing should be done before any system changes are done rendering your system totally useless.

I just had the same, Im acutally not entidled to install version 11.4 coming from 10.whatever, but still the installer has fubarred my webmail, message store, license and what not, giving me 3 hours headache restoring everything, and rendering my rpm database inconsistent, since it happily installed the new rpms and tossed the old ones.

very funny :(

suppose I buy another updates plan that lets me run 11.4, how the heck am I gonna fix this?
