Scalix taking a long time to shut down

Postby adhodgson » Fri Jun 15, 2007 9:17 am

Hi,

I was upgrading to 11.1 last night, and Scalix took over 5 minutes to shut down completely using the omshut command - I also tried stopping with service scalix stop, with the same results.

Anyone else getting this?
Thanks.
Andrew.

This can happen when there are one or more ual processes that don't terminate gracefully - in this case omshut waits for a period defined by the 't' option before terminating them anyway (the init script basically just calls omshut when run with 'stop' so no surprise there).

The default is 5 mins, but, having observed this behavior myself during a UPS test I shortened it to 1 minute by editing /etc/init.d/scalix, reasoning that it was better for the odd process to have the rug pulled out from under its feet than having the batteries drain before the disks were unmounted.
