Is anybody home at Scalix?

Postby charleschambers » Wed Jun 13, 2007 12:08 pm

I'm in a position where I need to have a high availability mail server. The boss asked me to get some quotes. I got a Microsoft quote in about an hour. I've been calling Scalix (650.931.9400) each day. I keep getting voicemail. I left a voicemail last Thursday or Friday but haven't heard anything. I emailed info@ but haven't heard anything. I tried to dial 2 for general info but got transfered to 9400 busy. Same for the operator.

I like the product but at some point I have to give a report to the boss. It would be a shame if Scalix wasn't in it.

Thanks

Anyone there?

Postby kfowler » Wed Jun 13, 2007 4:16 pm

I'm having the same problem - no one is answering the phones. I'm interesting in recommending Scalix Enterprise Edition for one of my clients. Hello? Anyone from Scalix there? Are you still in business? If this is the level of responsiveness before I buy, I can't imagine what it will be like after I buy!

What I found out in the first couple of weeks was that they are quite avid about encouraging, supporting and relying on their dealership sales/support channels to interact with existing or potential new customers. They seem very good with emails too.

What about emailing info@scalix.com and asking for the closest dealer from your location? Just be patient. I assure you I'm asking way less of you than to be patient with Microsoft in general.

Zimbra?

Postby kfowler » Thu Jun 14, 2007 1:18 am

Yeah, but do Zimbra have Outlook support? For my current project, I'm trying to get a 50 person office to replace Exchange with a Linux server. I normally recommend postfix But I am looking at Scalix because my customer have a lot of users on Outlook and they want webmail like OWA. I like to support Linux and Open Source, but it if it doesn't work with Outlook it will never fly with the boss.

I did email info@scalix. I also left a voicemail for the President.
Zimbra is neat but it looks like a toy. If it had a more business professional look and not aol/comcast home user look it would be an option.

Today we lost power for 8 hours. No redundant servers in a seperate location so now it has become super-extra important to get it done. So I could have missed a call or an email from someone, but I doubt it.

I had a look at the VARs listed on the scalix site. NONE are near me in Philly. I've never heard of any of them. The VAR web sites leave me somewhat anxious. A google search link on your corporate presence home page..... please. They may well be good reliable people but why should I have to vet them?

I would rather purchase direct if I can't conveniently go see the VAR.
Give me a CDW type VAR and fine I'll buy from them.

I could figure a way to do it myself and deal with no public folders. But I dearly want to support Scalix.

Keith - Scalix sales doesn't monitor this forum, really it's support and the Scalix community. None-the-less I did check with sales and they have tried calling you - but I don't think your phone is going into voicemail.

Expect a call tomorrow AM. Our Outlook support and scalability truly beat anything the other Linux competitors have (...but we will be polite and not name those organizations).

Cheers,

Support

I just finished up a phone conversation with Walter Lim. He was very nice and very helpful.
I'm really looking forward to working with the Scalix Team.

Thanks all for the replies.

Hi all,
I'm kind new to the whole linex and e-mail server scene. I'm primarily a windows guy.
I've been investigating for a while, and am havings a question in regards to ScalixSupport's comment.

Our organization has an exchange server with about 7-10,000 mailboxes.
You mentioned "Scalability".

I notice that your competition (Zimbra) has several organizations with large deployements. May I inquire as to how many large deployments scalix has? for I am not sure whether scalix can meet my needs.

please forgiving my english.

Right, thanks. And there are more reference customers beyond that - however, without their permission, we cannot talk about them in public. Please contact Scalix Sales (info -att- scalix dott commm) or myself (florian -att- ) and we'll connect you with someone who can help you get what you require.

Thx,
Florian.

7-10000 mailboxes? Marvelous. I wonder how many mailbox stores across how many drives, and how much ram are in how may servers to support that many users? Are they mostly pop accounts?

I have had scalix for a few years. First support was fine. Now things have turned BAD. I have been paying my annual $1000 for 5 support incidents and the licensing renewal.

This week my server has been down and freezing up MANY times. I emailed for support but NEVER got a response. I quickly did a upgrade to V11.1 but then I did not have the new license key, I had saved the link in my email that was down. I called all the scalix phone numbers and NO ONE picked up the phone EVER!!!!

Greg Orr used to be my sales rep and he left, I wonder if the company is going down the tubes. They even lost our check we send them, we had to send another one, how incompetent. I live in Austin, and me and my wife have had plenty of experiences with software companies going down because of management shuffles

I get no email response, and no one is picking up the phone!

I used to make fun of Microsoft for all the patches and endless version, but Scalix has come out with one fix after the other.

Since I can get no reliable support I am ready to rip out Scalix. I do not want sleepless nights and stressful days because of this company. If they want to salveage their reputation they better wake up and contact their customer!

I would not have written this if I did not get an answer to my email to Walter Lin, and a response to my support requests, or if ANY ONE had picked up the phone at Scalix.

I also think things seem to be going in all sorts of weird directions. Emailing support is a lost cause. Florian is a GREAT guy, and he is very helpful, but for crying out loud Scalix, he is only one guy and you really shouldn't have to PM him on the forums just to even get in touch with someone. Something is fundamentally broken in the communications channels. Someone posted a link to a madpenguin article in another thread which I think sums it up pretty well, why would I want to do business with you if you won't TALK to me or clearly show me who and how to do business with one of your partners??

Manuel,

can you please forward your open support requests to me in email (florian@ ...). I'll see to find out what the problem is here.

Cheers,
Florian.
