scalix pass relay on to sendmail?

Postby rtaylor82 » Fri Jun 01, 2007 11:12 am

I have searched everywhere and can't find a solution..

I am using Scalix for one primary domain. I would like to setup an addition domain just for backup relaying incase my other email server goes down, Scalix will cache and resend etc..

I have added the domain to smtpd.cfg and it accepts incoming mail but doesn't forward it to sendmail. (sendmail is already setup to relay)

Thank you for any suggestions,

Ryan

I'm a little confused. If your scalix server goes down, how will it relay mail to another server?

Best bet is to set up a mail gateway infront of the Scalix box. It will receive the mail and then send it off to where ever. If the Scalix box goes down, you can just edit the config file of the mail gateway and point it to the backup server. Mail will just collect on the gateway until it can deliver it.

Plus you can put the virus scan and spam filtering on it and leave your Scalix box pretty simple.

Thank you for the quick reply! I was previously using a sendmail server for my company. The sendmail server would serve domainA.com but also be a relay cache for domainB.com which was hosted on another server in another city... If domainB.com's server goes down, sendmail would hold it and try to deliver 4 hours later etc...

I want to retain that level of redunancy, just with Scalix...

Does that make any more sense?

Thanks,

Ryan

Yes you can do this with the Enterprise version of Scalix. You would install Scalix at both locations and then hook them together. Mail comes into the first server and if the email address is not on that server, it will deliver it to the right server (domainB). If the connection goes down, the mail stays on ServerA till it comes back up.

scalix pass relay on to sendmail?

Ok, I read that... the other servers and domains are exchange and until I can convince my clients scalix is better, they have to stay that way...

I guess I am just going to have to have a separate box that just runs sendmail and relays mail for all domains...

Thanks again,
