From old to newer and the Installer doesnt like me

Postby grandtxred » Tue May 29, 2007 3:37 pm

I am attempting to help someone go from Scalix 9 to 11 and I am not getting off to a good start. The first thing that I attempted was getting the Scalix 10.0.2 installer running so I can take the machine from 9 to 10. Well the dependency check failed on Apache 2.x. The problem is Apache 2 is up and running and installed in the default dir. So why is the installer not seeing that?

What OS is this on? Is it supported by Scalix 10?

[root@nix03 root]# rpm -qa | grep http
libghttp-1.0.9-8.1
redhat-config-httpd-1.1.0-4

=======================================

shouldn't I be seeing apache2 or httpd?

Yup. The installer looks for httpd in the rpm database.

If it was compiled from source or something else, it will not work.

I compiled it from source. So I have to download and install the rpm then?

Do you have any idea where I can find apache in an rpm? I have searched rpmfind and dag wiers with no luck.

Why don't you use the Apache 2.0 version that comes with RHEL3?

If you really want a newer version, I would recommend that you first put-on the RedHat-supplied version, then install Scalix and afterwards manually tweak everything to use a manually installed apache version.

I did not think that was Apache 2.0. I will check it out.

It is...

Code: Select all

[root@claire root]# cat /etc/redhat-release
Red Hat Enterprise Linux ES release 3 (Taroon Update 2)
[root@claire root]# rpm -qa | grep http
redhat-config-httpd-1.1.0-4
httpd-2.0.46-32.ent
libghttp-1.0.9-8.1

(otherwise we would have provided a solution for the issue; we prefer to use OS-supplied components).

Please note that we are about to discontinue support for RHEL3. Scalix 11.1, due next month, will no longer provide packages for that platform. You are advised to upgrade to RHEL4.

Cheers,
Florian.
