Relaying with SMTP AUTH....

Postby 2bad4u » Tue May 22, 2007 12:07 pm

Hi all

after hours and hours I have no more ideas what to do...
I want to set up a scalix-installation, to send mails over an external smtp-server.

some details:
smtp.isp.de --> the external smtp-server
imap.isp.de --> the external imap-server, where I want to receive mail (with fetchmail)
user@domain.de --> user to gain access to the external mail-server, and also user in my scalix-environment (my mail-domain is domain.de)

I really don't know how to set up scalix/sendmail to be able to send mails to "the internet".
I've read the wiki, 100000 of Forum posts, I asked google 10000000 times.....
but it is still not running.

What do I have to configure (sendmail....)
Right now I don't want to say what I tried/did, cause I hope someone can give me a step-by-step guide, what I have to do.

I would be really happy, if in the end scalix understands what I want ;-)

Greetings
Florian

You want to set up a SMART-HOST.

Check out this from the wiki:
http://www.scalix.com/wiki/index.php?title=HowTos/MTA_Integration

It should all be in there.

Hmmm... That seems right. Maybe try deleting the .db file and recreating it as per the Wiki. It should put the correct permissions on it.

Sorry I can't be of more help. I don't know of anyone that uses SmartHosts that I can check on the permissions of the files.

Too much information.
Just dnl comment the FEATURE line, as in:
dnl FEATURE(`authinfo', `hash /etc/mail/auth/client-info')dnl
The ISP should let your scalix server relay email via the smarthost by default, since it's part of *their* network.
