"subject".dat and attachment.dat.

Postby stio » Mon May 14, 2007 5:43 am

hi,
we've got a problem. We send mails to our customers as "subject".dat or attachment.dat.
The problem arise if our customers work with Exchange 6.x or Microsoft Mime OLE 6.x.

We get an e-mail as HTML, we answer to this e-mail and our customers get an "empty" mail with an attachment sounds like subject.dat or attachment.dat.

You can open this attachment with Microsoft Word.

we work with Scalix-Server 11.0.4.10790 and Outlook-Connector 11.0.4.27.
The problem occurs since Scalix-Version 11.0.

First we thought it's a problem because we send e-mails as rich-text. we changed the settings in outlook to HTML, but the problem persists.

On friday we found a workaround... We changed the following settings in Outlook.
extras --> Option --> e-mail format --> internetformat --> encode attachment of "Only-Text-mails" UUENCODE. This option must be activated.

This sounds like a TNEF gateway.

Check out the message at the bottom of page one of this thread and see if that might help you out.

first thx for your answer.
the problem exists anymore. my workaround was a lucky break.
Today some customers told me, that they get "subject".dat.
If we send the mail as only-text; the message arrived correct.

We can't delete the TNEF-Route. Cause we've 2 Systemenvironment.
Scalix 11.0.4. and Exchange 5.5. When we delete the TNEF-Route, the Scalix-User can't send emails to our Exchange-Users.

We've 500 Scalix-Premium-Users and 150 Exchange-User. The 150 Exchange-User will migrate in the next time. But I don't know when the migration is completed.

Can anybody help us. for us it's a big problem.

hi.
Now we've deleted the TNEFgateway.
And the problem occurs furthermore.

When I look at the mail I sent in Outlook (sending folder) the Mail looks nice, but our customers can't read this mail.
And when I look to this mail via IMAP I see the mail is empty and all informations are in a file sounds like "subject".dat. (Looks like the mail where get our customers).
If I open the mail with SWA the mail was completly empty. Only the To, From and subject-field get indicated.

Ok now you can say - you have to update. We've got this problem a couple of time. There was 11.0, 11.0.1, 11.0.2, 11.0.3, 11.0.4 and nobody can help us with this problem.

50 % - 60 % of the e-mails to Exchange 6.x and Mime OLE 6.x are subject.dat. And our customers and users are not happy about this. They lost a couple of time because of this problem.

Whats about 11.1? Maybe this problem is released? Is there somebody who can help us?

We only work with Outlook. And 600 Users are affected by this issue. :!:

thx. stio

With this many users affected, I'd advise opening an email support incident.

Having said that, can you please post the output from "omshowrt -q all"

Thanks
Kev.

@stio: does this happen if you send HTML mail rather than RTF?

hi @ all.
I've intercepted two mails from our mailgate. One was sent with TNEF and one without. i have an exported e-mail from Scalix and some screenshots of the outlook-settings.

@ kev
hi Kev,
there is an open support case since April.

omshowrt -q all
UNIX internet MIME
LOCAL RESSOURCEN
LOCAL XXX
LOCAL VERTEILER

But the problem exists although we have deleted the TNEF-Gateway. I think thats not the Problem. I will add the TNEF-Gateway again. Our Users get some Errors, if they send internal mails. As a result of the Problems the last time, i don't want tax the patience of our users.

@Chris
Hi Chris, may I should write in german? :-D
This happens with HTML and RTF. But not with Only Text. First we sent mails with RTF. Then I changed the policies of our terminal-servers to HTML. It's always the same. We send attatchment.dat.

Interesting that the format of the reply is incorrect in the Sent Items folder.

I would like to see an example of the message and also the reply in the Sent Items folder.
I'll PM you with the details of how you can send those to me.

Regards - Richard

Bugzilla opened for this problem:
http://bugzilla.scalix.com/show_bug.cgi?id=15538

Problem caused by a missing file in the RTF->HTML converter environment (see bug report for details).
