Migrating IMAP mailboxes - Scalix IMAP server timing out

Postby les.piggot » Tue Nov 08, 2005 12:19 pm

Hi,

Initially this would seem to be an easy idea, use eShuttle to migrate (copy) from 1 email server running UW imap into Scalix. However eShuttle seems to require an ldap userdb, which we don't have.

Plan B, toltec email connector. This initially seemed like a better option (and its cheep compared to eShuttle) however the Toltec connector tool, required that the imap namespace is hardcoded (IMO stupid requirement) which of course isn't the case in scalix.

Plan C was to configure all the IMAP clients to both email servers and 'drag & drop' emails into Scalix. This worked for the first few minutes and then scalix started reporting imap server timeouts (after about the 100th mail)

Plan D backup IMAP data as a pst and then restore on Scalix IMAP connection, but outlook just seems to barf.

Any suggestions on how to import the emails?

Les

I have a plan E for you. Have a look at imapsync at http://freshmeat.net/projects/imapsync/

This will sync server a with server b over the wire.

Cheers,

Sascha.
