that looks fine. i would recommend that you recreate your sendmail.cf using the following sequence:

Code: Select all

service sendmail stop
cd /etc/mail
rm -f *.cf
make
service sendmail start

after that, check with

Code: Select all

grep DaemonPort sendmail.cf
lsof -i :25

Cheers,
F.

I did as you suggested but without any joy :

Code: Select all

[root@marigold mail]# cd /etc/mail

[root@marigold mail]# service sendmail stop
Shutting down sm-client:                                   [  OK  ]
Shutting down sendmail:                                    [  OK  ]

[root@marigold mail]# rm -f *.cf

[root@marigold mail]# make

[root@marigold mail]# service sendmail start
Starting sendmail:                                         [  OK  ]
Starting sm-client:                                        [  OK  ]

[root@marigold mail]# grep DaemonPort sendmail.cf
O DaemonPortOptions=

[root@marigold mail]# lsof -i:25
COMMAND    PID USER   FD   TYPE DEVICE SIZE NODE NAME
sendmail 13900 root    4u  IPv4 228814       TCP *:smtp (LISTEN)

At this point I was not too surprised that nothing had changed since I had not restarted Scalix, therefore :

Code: Select all

[root@marigold mail]# /etc/init.d/scalix restart
Stopping Scalix services (marigold):                       [  OK  ]
Starting Scalix services (marigold):                       [  OK  ]

[root@marigold mail]# lsof -i:25
COMMAND    PID USER   FD   TYPE DEVICE SIZE NODE NAME
sendmail 13900 root    4u  IPv4 228814       TCP *:smtp (LISTEN)

Unfortunately it still did not help :( ......

OK, maybe it's minimal syntax.

Can you change the line in your sendmail.mc

Code: Select all

DAEMON_OPTIONS (`Port=smtp,Addr=127.0.0.1, Name=MTA')

to be

Code: Select all

DAEMON_OPTIONS(`Port=smtp,Addr=127.0.0.1, Name=MTA')dnl

Note the removed space before the "(" and then space replaced by the dnl at the end.

After this, rerun the stop/remove/make/start sequence in my previous post.

EDIT: Just tried it on my system, this *will* help - it's the space before the parenthese. Sometimes even I (normally preferring sendmail over postfix or so...) start hating m4 for sendmail configuration...... :-(

Let me know if this helps,

Thx,
Florian.

Florian,

I took the easy route and cut and pasted your line so there were no errors.....

And it appears to have worked!!! :D

Thanks very much for your help.

well, the answer is right there.

you seem to have exim installed instead of sendmail; this is not supported. use redhat's package management tools to uninstall exim and install true sendmail instead.

Florian.

Ah ok. I did not know exim was not supported.

Well anyway, I have gotten it to work with exim. (Thanks to #rhel on irc.freenode.net as well as the effort of you guys on the board, narrowing it down to the issue of sendmail/sendmailclone listening on localhost:25 not *:25)

For reference, this is the solution to my problem:

edit /etc/exim.conf (it might also be /etc/exim/exim.conf on another machine)

insert the line:

Code: Select all

local_interfaces = 127.0.0.1

stop scalix smtpd (omoff -wd0 smtpd) restart exim (service sendmail stop; service sendmail start) start scalix smtpd (omon smtpd)

Cheers,
Phil

P.S.

WEIRD: after a couple days of it working, it stopped working. the machine did not reboot, but something reverted exim.conf back to the old version without the "local_interface" line.....
