Scalix-Connect Outlook 2003 -- Smart Cache does not work

Postby FJE_84 » Mon Apr 16, 2007 9:15 am

I do installing Scalix-Connect about following HOW-TO:
___________________________________________________________________
- de-install all versions of Scalix Connect
- make sure no more Scalix processes are running through task manager
(maybe you want to reboot the machine at this point; please check for
sxcachemgr.exe,
sxualwsd32.exe,
sxservice.exe,
sxwipe.exe and
outlook.exe

- delete the scalix directories: /Program Files/Scalix and /Documents & Settings/user/Local Settings/Application Support/Scalix
- go to Control Panel/Mail/Profile and delete all Scalix profiles
- now, install Scalix Connect 11.0.3.1 (comes with the Scalix 11 GA release) and create a fresh profile
If this still doesn't work, please provide us with more informaiton:
- type of network used
- can you telnet <name-of-scalix-server> 5729 from the machine
- version of outlook used
- state of smartcache tray icon
- content of smartcache logfile (available through double-click on tray icon)
___________________________________________________________________

i have some Problems

with server selection the possibility exists of lotus and scalix

-by creating of a new mailing account the wizard asks me where store of smart cache for example in the profile
(it goes also externally on another place)
-i set checkbox for mobile use

but when i do this, he ask me for smart cache to and the checkbox for mobile use is also empty

the sync-protocol of smart cache look so:
================================================================
10:21:47 =============== Scalix-Cachemanager-Protokoll=======================
10:21:47 Synchronization started 13.04.2007 10:21:47 for Outlook_11_0_3
10:21:47 ================================================================

10:21:47 Connecting to Scalix-Server...
10:21:47 Connected
================================================================
and the system tray Icon is greyed out

by testing the connection with command shell
telnet <scalix.server> 5729 it works!

by switching from work online to work offline the Outlook hangs itself up sometimes, but that is normal. :)
Thanks

Franz

With that additional server types scalix servers Lotusmail stands likewise to the selection. Can Lotusmail impair the Connect?

Today I got 2 systems exactly like yours after the 11.0.3 OL2003 connector upgrade, and they had a couple of crashes on exit. I went through the same steps as you did, short only of re-installing the whole Office 2003 again. I can't think of anything special about them. They never had SmartCache ON before. This is really odd, since I did several other systems where everything went fine.

It just occurred to me what is different about those 2 systems: they are the only ones so far that I did the connector upgrade *AFTER* the upgrade of the server to 11.0.3 on Tuesday evening (which by the way was very straight forward and smooth!).

Maybe there is nothing to conclude from this yet, but I have a couple more clients to upgrade today, so later on I'll have more info on this.

Today I did a few more upgrades to the 11.0.3 connector, and most of the accounts were on Samba Domain and roaming profiles. The bottom line is that I ended up *removing* the SmartCache. I was getting messages that the profile could not be accessed.

So, something must have changed on the server with the upgrade from 11.0.2 to 11.0.3. When I posted the message on the thread below, in which everything was fine, I still had the 11.0.2 version on the server. viewtopic.php?p=31874#31874

So, to confirm my suspicions, I got my perfectly good system at home, in which SmartCache was working fine, and deleted the profile, removed the connector, all the scalix folders, and went forward again. To my disbelieve, the SmartCache just sat there grayed-out. And I had a couple of crashes on exit again.

Not satisfied yet, I uninstalled Office2003, scalix, BBDM, cleaned up all folders, rebooted the system, installed Office2003, applied SP2, installed scalix again, BBDM, etc. SmartChace *still doesn't work*.

Now I'm all confused. What the heck is going on?

hi jaime,

can you check if any network communication is going on at all, i.e. if there is traffic between client and server on port 5729? also, the scalixmail and synclog logfiles on the outlook client might have some information.

you might also want to reset your cache change logs. the procedure is described under known issues and workarounds in the scalix 11.0.3 release notes, the issue noted is something like and upgrade from scalix 10 offline work folders. the cleanup procedure is the same, however, the cause does not apply directly.

If you have support incident packs available, i also encourage you to contact our support team; this seems like something is screwed up with either the client or the mailbox on the server and might need further investigation that will be difficult to conduct through the forum.

Hello,

I would be concerned about using roaming profiles. My concern would be what software versions the desktop sees and if those are overwritten by the profile. So the desktop has the updated version and the profile has a later version embedded.

What do you think?

Hi Florian

Thanks for the reply.

The port is open fine. If I recreate the profile without Smartcache everything works fine, email, calendar, contacts, etc.

So, this is probably what I'm returning to have as the default installation: NO SMARTCACHE for the problem accounts.

As a further feedback, I'm now quite convinced this problem is related to something done on the server side during the 11.0.2->11.0.3 upgrade. I say this because I logged into a couple of computers under my account still with 11.0.2 connector, and others with the 11.0.3 that I had installed before the server upgrade, and now the smartcache does not work on any of them. This seems to affect the existing accounts. I created a new bogus account for testing, and smartcache is ok (so far).

So, I'm throwing this issue back at Scalix, so that you can try to reproduce the problem and figure this out a little better on your lab. At the same time I'll contact our local reseller for help as well. Maybe there is something that needs to be done with the existing accounts on the server during the upgrade that never took place, or is stuck somewhere.

I read the whole release notes (below) and the only thing that caught my eyes as something related to the problem is the indexing procedure that could take several days.
http://downloads.scalix.com/.community/ ... NOTES.html

Well, we don't have a large storage yet, and the CPU load on the server has be pretty low. The upgrade was done 5 days ago. Our first install was version 11 already, 7 weeks ago.

Jaime
