Internet addresses for public folders

Postby mapelt » Thu Mar 29, 2007 12:21 pm

I am creating public folders and wanting to assign them addresses. I am following the directions in the Admin Guide and from the Scalix wiki at:

http://www.scalix.com/wiki/index.php?ti ... ic_Folders

I do the

omaddbb -s folder-name

and then the

omaddent -e "S=+BB/CN=folder-name/OU1=corp/OU2=company/DDT1=BB/DDV1=folder-name/IA=folder-name@company.tld"

but I can't send email to that address from out on the internets. I get Message delivery errors like this:

Delivery to the following recipient failed permanently:

folder-name@company.tld

Technical details of permanent failure:
PERM_FAILURE: SMTP Error (state 9): 550 5.1.1 <folder-name@company.tld>: Recipient address rejected: User unknown in local recipient table

I look forward to your suggestions, corrections, comments... Thanks!

Also, the Admin Guide differs from the wiki where DDT1=BB-NAME in the Guide and DDT1=BB on the wiki. What's the diff, if any?

Does the folder show up in "Public Folders" ?

Yes it does.

What about taking the reverse approach?

Create the user from within SAC as any other. Login from SWA and send/receive emails as any other user would.

OK, now edit the permissions for the Inbox and make it public ... This is a much simpler problem to deal with.

This is a public folder... not a user.

folder-name@company.tld
folder-name@ *IS* a user, doesn't matter how you cut it.

I see what you're saying...

Could you provide me with an example?

Sorry, Scalix server admin is not my strong suit... just trying to troubleshoot an ongoing issue that is keeping my users from getting email for particular client requests. Thanks.

Just play with the SAC/SWA interfaces. You will be able to accompkish over 90% of what you need there. The exceptions are backup/archive and anti-virus/anti-spam management.

Over the last month or so that I've been using scalix I may have gone through some 500 action items, out of which I may have used only 2 command line om*** calls. As I found out later they were not really necessary. And to this date I have not read a single scalix wiki HowTo instruction. I know they are there, but most of what I need I find on this forum just by searching.

Back to your issue, just create a "Scalix Standard User" and share its Inbox.

For example, I have created a "boardroom" user, whose emails I forward to another user. I also shared the calendar of the boardroom user, so everyone has access to it. I could have achieved the same thing listing it of Type *Resource* only (no email)

I appreciate the suggestion but it's really more of a workaround than a fix. Sure, sharing a user mailbox would work, but doing it that way creates "one-offs" (I already have 50+ pub folders but now we're going to start doing it this new way). Not really a viable solution for the corporate environment I'm working in. The desired result is a public folder that can receive mail from the external world.

My thinking is that if the Scalix documentation says to get X then do A followed by B, then I should get X by doing A and B. But this is not the case so I was hoping for a bit more information on how to troubleshoot this.

Anyone?

Hi
I do mailing to PulicFolders and it works great.

1. First I create a folder in Outlook like test. This folder needs default create Objects rights.
2. omaddent -e "S=++BB/CN=test/OU1=corp/DDT1=BB-NAME/DDV1=test/IA=test@test.xx.ch"

you have to be careful with subfolders like folder1/folder2 DDV1 is DDV1=folder1>folder2

I hope this helps

What does 'omshowacl -t bb -l ":FolderName"' show for Default permissions?

Try: 'ommodacln -t bb -l ":FolderName" -g default -c +attach'
