Scalix clustering and loadbalancing

Postby erikw_nl » Fri Mar 09, 2007 9:44 am

Hi,

Were are in the process of designing a setup in which several 1000's of users will use scalix through the internet.

The idea is that the design will be setup as a grid, so that handling system crashes will be straightforward.
Questions:
In the Scalix installation Guide V. 11.0.1, designs are given for redundancy of individual scalix servers and loadbalancing.
The loadbalancing picture on page 25 shows three servers A, B and C.
q1) How is the mail distributed over the loadbalanced server. Does each server itself store all the emails, or does each server know which machine (A, B or C) does keep the mail for the user that is requesting his email.
q2) Can the mail be centralized using a fileserver, so that the inidividual Scalix servers use this central mail store for the users logged in.
q3) Is it possible to distribute individual components of a scalix installation, i.e. postgress, tomcat over other servers. Postgres could theoretically be defined as remote database running on another server.
With this distribution it could be easier to divide the load over more servers, which makes scalability issues easier to solve.

I apologize for all the questions, all information will be very much appreciated.

Thx in advance.

Erik

For clustering to be enabled you'll need an enterprise edition license. suggest you get in touch with our sales team, they'll also provide you with additional information on system sizing and best practices design.
