Installation problems 11.0.1

Postby bcarruthers » Tue Feb 27, 2007 8:25 am

Im a brand new customer/user.

I'm happy with the features that Scalix has to offer but we are having some serious performance issues. I upgraded to 11.0.1 from a new 11 installation last week and are setting up the admin outlook connector automatic plugin download (most clients still have the 11.00xx connector not the 11.0.1xx connector).

We are having several issues with the connector which crash outlook, namely, my boss's outlook so lots of people are not very happy with the new system at the moment.

For a quick listing of some issues;
-Dismissing/snoozing a task alert in outlook crashes outlook (only on boss's outlook)
-Rules wizard fails to create rules
-Sending takes ages (sometime gets stuck for hours) in the outbox

Should I not use the smartcache on machines which don't leave the office? I've installed all machines with the smartcache enabled.

Is there a guide to know if a machine is too loaded for scalix? If I check the cpu load in gnome the machine is using around 50-60% of either cpu (hyperthreaded cpu) and around 1.2gb of 2gb of memory. The system runs Mailscanner, spamassassin, apache, mysql, postgres, scalix. I still haven't optimized all my SA and plugin rules for spam.

Thanks,
Brett

Ok, some quick fixes.

Downgrading the connector to v10 will eliminate a host of issues, but will mean you do not have smartcache. Most of these have been addressed, I there was certainly some screwiness with the 11.0.0 client, and many people simply reverted to v10. I would suggest that you downgrade the clients that can be downgraded. This may not be the best long term solution, but it'll take the heat off you, and then we can look at some of the other things you're seeing. Start with that.

Spamassasin will put one heck of a load on your server, particularly with Razor, Pyzor, and DCC running, but with 25 users, I don't think thats going to be what you're seeing. I'd bet that what is happening is that your message store is being indexed. What you'll see is ual.local and/or java as taking a ton of processing time if you look at top. You can either just wait for that to complete, or you can throttle it back. Have a look here:

Let me know how that goes.
