How to create email alias/forward?

Postby athought » Thu Jan 11, 2007 3:17 pm

I need to create a "user" so that when an email is addressed to user@domain (domain being the Scalix domain), it is forwarded to otheruser@otherdomain (a non-Scalix Internet address).

How can I do this?

Hi,
It can be done by creating rules through rules wizard.

Thanks

Hi!

You can do this by creating a user, and create server side mail forwarding rule for his/her
account to his/her non-scalix account.
Note:In order to create a user you need administrative rights.

To create server-side rule you can either use SWA rules wizard or you can even use sxaa
tool.

Tried, but it didn't work

I created a standard user, test.user@domain.

Then, using the rules wizard (.../Scalix/rw), I created a rule. First I created a rule to redirect. The email landed in test.user's inbox. Then I created a rule to forward. The email landed in test.user's inbox.

I know I must be missing something.

And I can find no reference in the docs or man pages to sxaa.

Hi!

The manual for sxaa is available at: http://downloads.scalix.com/ark/sxaa.readme

Could you tell us if the Scalix server is local/available to internet. If Scalix Server is available
to internet, check the file /var/opt/scalix/<aa>/s/sys/smtpd.cfg to see if the domain that you
refer to in your email address is included in one of the "RELAY accept .." lines.

Could you wait for the rule to work before you log into the account test.user@domain to
check if the rule has really worked.

I tried the redirect and forward both of them work. The rules created either by rules
wizard (.../Scalix/rw) or sxaa are both server side rules.

Look at the link below for downloading sxaa:

Still not working

I checked, and the domain was not included. So I added it. I stopped and restarted all Scalix services. It's still not working.

How long should I wait to see if it worked? I'm accustomed to forwarding being instantaneous.

I"ll look at sxaa and see if I can learn anything.

Getting closer

The redirect rule works if the mail comes from one of the recognized RELAY domains. But if it comes from outside, it won't relay it. That is, if the sender is in one of the internal domains specified by a RELAY accept, the message is forwarded/redirected. If the sender is on an outside/non-accepted domain, it gets rejected.

So how do I set it up so that if a random person from outside sends an email to one of these accounts, the email will be properly forwarded to an external address?

useroutside@outside.com sends an email to test.user@inside.com (inside.com being a Scalix domain).

"Test User" is set to redirect to test.user@someotherdomain.com.

So while there is a valid account inside of Scalix, the email is never stopping there, but just being forwarded to someotherdomain.com.
