What's the best way to install clamav on SUSE 10.1 with Scalix 11 in combination with Mailwasher ?

Joshua talks about installing the clamav and clamav-milter packages on Fedora, but I can't find a clamav-milter package for SUSE Linux

I would prefer not to install from source unless someone can point me to a 100% working tutorial on this.

Just a note.
My mail server is Scalix 10.1 running on RHEL4 on a new pretty good machine.

With Mailwasher installed and running with Scalix, my Load average (from top) is always between 2.3 and 3.5, even without any users logged in.
Without Mailwasher (after I disabled it), my load average is between 0.10 and 0.30.
Ideally, a load average should be below 1.5 IMO. Below 1.0 is even better.
At a load average of 5 or above, servers may stop responding.

Also, regularly, Mailwasher would timeout on certain messages and an error would be recorded in the logs.
On top of that, occasionally, I found out from my users 3 months after I got it up and running, emails would just get black-holed.
And finally, Emails between my two sites were being delayed, most of the time by minutes, a lot of the time by many hours.

As soon as I disabled MailWasher, all those problems went away.

Buyer beware...

rex007can,

Sorry to hear about your problems, perhaps it has something to do with some sort library issue?

I've run MailWasher and Scalix 10 (& 11) on several different machines running SUSE, RHEL and CentOS and have never seen this issue before.

My machine currently runs a lot more than just MailWasher and Scalix, and the load has never peaked above .98 ...

Additionally, milters on the actual mail system are not the preferred method of use for MailWasher or any other spam or virus filter. They all recommend running it as a "gateway" on another machine to prevent large installations from having load and performance issues.

Just food for thought.

Joshua.

While setting up sendmail and restarting it, has anyone run into (and solved) this?

Code: Select all

Starting sendmail: 554 5.0.0 /etc/mail/sendmail.cf: line 1679: Xmailwasher_server: `=' expected
451 4.0.0 InputFilter mailwasher_server not defined: No such file or directory

?
