Installing eval-ver. without using X

Postby WY-IT-guy » Mon Sep 20, 2004 6:25 pm

I am attempting to set up the Scalix evaluation version on SuSE 9.0. I think that I am close, but I did not run the Scalix-Wizard to automate the setup (because I am running on low-end hardware and did not want to bother install X-Windows)

Is it true that I need X-windows to run the Scalix-Wizard?

Can I do a complete install without using X-Windows at all?

----
I have installed Apache2, Tomcat 4.1.30, Java sdk 1.4.2_04.

I think I have under-estimated the complexity of the configuration of Scalix. I thought if I broke away from the instructions, I could install it without X. I am willing to start over from scratch if need be.

Both the SWA install and the SAC install seem to have gone OK. All of the services but one seem to have installed OK. (See below)

My install has no configuration

I do not seem to have ANY USERS at all (I cannot log into the Administrator web interface)

I am specifically looking for a way to configure the basic system. If I have to, I will wipe out and start over

X-windows/Scalix Wizard

Postby ScalixSupport » Mon Sep 20, 2004 6:52 pm

Hello,

At the moment, yes, you do need X-windows to install Scalix (ie: run the Scalix Wizard). We are currently working on documenting how to install Scalix without X-windows. It's much more than unpacking RPMs, as there are a number of commands and numerous config files that Scalix Wizard executes/updates. However, once you complete the installation using Scalix Wizard, you can remove the X-windows system.

Also, after you install SAC and SWA, make sure you execute $TOMCAT_HOME\bin\ ./startup.sh to start these apps (See installation Guide).

To login to SAC, use the authid value for the username. For example, to see the authid for user "sxadmin", enter:

omshowu -n sxadmin

Note the value for "Authentication ID". That's what you need to enter for the username (case-sensitive).

Let me know if you have any questions or issues,

Regards,

Matthew Ward
