Please take some time to search the forums. This is discussed in a lot of threads. The most useful is http://www.scalix.com/community/viewtopic.php?t=1922

Cheers

Are you asking where Scalix saves the mails contained in the different mailboxes? It's stored in /var/opt/scalix, together with user configuration information, server configuration, etc. More specifically, in /var/opt/scalix/data, though that directory is useless without all the others.

The mailstore structure is very complicated, made to be easily read by the server, and to not require the same email to be saved to disk multiple times if delivered to multiple people. However, the tradeoff is that there's no easy way to find where in that structure a mail is stored, or at least not as simple as looking in a file or directory like maildir/mbox does.

I've got a question too...if this is where "everything" is stored...does migrating the email server to a bigger/better machine entail simply moving this directory into the same location on a machine with scalix newly installed? I've only got guinea pigs as users on the machine right now but once I'm done testing it's going to be deployed on a bigger machine...

Yes, /var/opt/scalix is all of the data and much of the configuration. If you move to a bigger machine, do yourself a favor and keep the same host name.

There has been many posts on the topic of moving /var/opt/scalix.

Regards,
Don
