general/config questions

Postby ste » Fri Aug 12, 2005 9:10 am

Hi,
I'm evaluating scalix and I've some general/specifics questions about the product:

1. Will the next scalix version (9.4) support the "task" function of Outlook?

2. Is it possible to create a "scalix cluster", I mean 2 full redundant scalix servers configured as main - standby systems (when the first fails, the second will become active)?

3. Is it possible to limit the scalix users for outgoing destinations (in our company, some users can send messages everywhere, other users only to the local domain). If yes, how?

4. In our company, all the outgoing messages are forwarded to a mail-gateway (for AV/spam/destination checks). After these checks, the mail-gw sends the messages to the destinations. How can I configure scalix to do it (forward all outgoing messages to a gw) ?

Thank you very much!

then i'll try the other ones....

1. scalix already supports using tasks IN outlook; we did that since the first version. I assume that you talk about tasks support in swa. This is planned for one of the next releases of SWA.

2. yes it is; we will be officially supporting failover cluster configurations in the next release. technically speaking it is possible today, but not elegantly. our professional services people have implemented a number of failover clusters.

3. this is possible using message router rules. the RULES file syntax is described in the scalix administration guide. the idea is to filter on the user class/service level atribute that can be set for every user using the command line.

hope this helps,
Florian.

Thank you Hunter & Florian for the answers!

Florian, about answer 2: the "next release" you mean is 9.4?

Another general question: which languages are supported for SWA?

Thank you again

Ste,

... no, the release after that (doesn't have a proper name yet, internally code-named "Figaro"! :) 9.4 was released on Aug, 8th and my post was from Aug, 12th and I'd certainly not want to be called backward-looking. :-)

Again, if you need failover clustering before that date (based on 9.2.1 or 9.4), this can be done and we've setup the configuration for production use a number of times.

Thx,
Florian

Ste,

as a matter of fact, this has been implemented with help from our partner "Sygroup" - I believe I mentioned those guys to you. (www.sygroup.ch)
